Phylogeny of the Nudibranchia [PDF]

open access: yesZoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2000
More than 100 morphological, anatomical and histological characters pertaining to the Nudibranchia are discussed in the course of a phylogenetic analysis. Based on our own investigations on anatomy, histology and published literature, the polarity of each character is assessed by comparing its expression with outgroups, chiefly the Pleurobranchoidea ...

Initial Results on the Molecular Phylogeny of the Nudibranchia (Gastropoda, Opisthobranchia) Based on 18S rDNA Data

open access: yesMolecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 1999
peer reviewedThis study investigated nudibranch phylogeny on the basis of 18S rDNA sequence data. 18S rDNA sequence data of 19 taxa representing the major living orders and families of the Nudibranchia were analyzed. Representatives of the Cephalaspidea,

The phylogeny of Nudibranchia (Opisthobranchia, Gastropoda, Mollusca) reconstructed by three molecular markers [PDF]

open access: yesOrganisms Diversity and Evolution, 2001
The phylogeny of the Nudibranchia and its major constituent taxa is investigated by comparing the complete sequences of the 18S rDNA of 54 species, a part of the 16S rDNA of 38 species and part of cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1) of 45 species.

Morphology of the buccal apparatus of Dendronotus frondosus (Gastropoda: Nudibranchia)

Journal of Morphology, 2023
AbstractNudibranchia is the order of Gastropoda, which is known for its high diversity of dietary specializations and a diversified morphology of the buccal armature. The characters of the buccal armature are adaptive to the feeding mechanisms and diet preferences, but they also are phylogenetically informative.

Morphological Organization of Cerata in the Nudibranch Pteraeolidia semperi (Gastropoda, Nudibranchia)

Doklady Biological Sciences, 2023
The morphology of cerata and cnidosacs were studied in the nudibranch mollusk Pteraeolidia semperi (Bergh, 1870). Fine tubules arise from the gastrodermal channel of the digestive gland and contain cells with symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae). The cnidosac stores large kleptocnides. Thus, P.

The first molecular phylogeny of cladobranchian opisthobranchs (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Nudibranchia)

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2010
The first molecular phylogeny is presented for the highly diverse, opisthobranch molluscan Cladobranchia. This study, the most comprehensive for Cladobranchia to date, used new sequences of two mitochondrial and one nuclear genes for 95 specimens from 22 families and 38 genera with a species of Pleurobranchoidea as outgroup. Although our results do not

Protective mechanisms in the Eolidacea (Mollusca Nudibranchia)

Journal of the Linnean Society of London, Zoology, 1966
SUMMARY The protective system of eolid nudibranchs consists of crypsis, defensive behaviour patterns, autotomy of cerata, exudation of glandular secretions, ejection of nematocysts, and the structure of the epidermis. The existence of warning colouration has not been established.

On the genus Armina (Gastropoda: Heterobranchia: Nudibranchia) in Thailand

Marine Biodiversity, 2017
The marine sea slug heterobranch fauna from Thailand is composed of a total of 240 species, and Armina semperi is the only representative of the genus Armina recorded in the country. This species, described in the Philippines in the nineteenth century, has an uneasy taxonomic history and appears to be part of a complex of morphologically similar ...

Progenesis in the evolution of the nudibranch mollusks genus Dendronotus (Gastropoda: Nudibranchia)

Doklady Biological Sciences, 2016
The morphology and postlarval ontogenesis of the radula in 11 species of the genus Dendronotus Alder et Hancock, 1845, has been studied. Four types of radula are recognized in adult mollusks. Proposed evidence suggests that small species of Dendronotus have evolved by progenesis.

Spermatogenesis in Aeolidia papillosa (Nudibranchia)

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1984
Spermatogenesis was studied in Aeolidia papillosa by disection of the ovotestis. Morphologically, developing spermatogonia and accessory cells are similar to those described in Spurilla neopolitana except for spermatid development. Sperm also were examined for the presence of carbohydrates.
