Handling uncertainties in background shapes: the discrete profiling method

open access: yes, 2014

Proximity to bait and social interactions influence individual wild pig (Sus scrofa) visitation at bait sites

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Individual wild pig bait site visitation and time to initial detection is primarily influenced by space use (i.e., proximity to bait) and whether wild pigs from other social groups visited before. Specifically, females are less likely to visit a bait site if an adult male visits a site before them.

Growth Estimators and Confidence Intervals for the Mean of Negative Binomial Random Variables with Unknown Dispersion

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2013
The negative binomial distribution becomes highly skewed under extreme dispersion. Even at moderately large sample sizes, the sample mean exhibits a heavy right tail.

Constructing Optimal Tests on a Lagged Dependent Variable [PDF]

open access: yes
Via the leading unit root case, the problem of testing on a lagged dependent variable is characterized by a nuisance parameter which is present only under the alternative (see Andrews and Ploberger (1994)).

Demonstration, validation, and application of hyperspectral microscopy for the collection of cyanobacterial spectral signatures

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Cyanobacterial and other algal blooms are an environmental concern in waterbodies worldwide. While these blooms are a nuisance for recreational activities, they can also be harmful to human and wildlife health when the algae produce and release toxins.

Temporal Dynamics of Parkinson's Disease Tremor: Clinical and Neuroimaging Insights

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder clinically defined by three cardinal motor symptoms: bradykinesia, rigidity, and tremor. Although the natural history of bradykinesia and rigidity is well described, the evolution of tremor as the disease progresses remains controversial. Objectives The goal was to

R Package multiPIM: A Causal Inference Approach to Variable Importance Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2014
We describe the R package multiPIM, including statistical background, functionality and user options. The package is for variable importance analysis, and is meant primarily for analyzing data from exploratory epidemiological studies, though it could ...
