The file drawer problem and tolerance for null results

, 1979
For any given research area, one cannot tell how many studies have been conducted but never reported. The extreme view of the "file drawer problem" is that journals are filled with the 5% of the studies that show Type I errors, while the file drawers are

Null surfaces of null curves on 3-null cone

Physics Letters A, 2014
Abstract The null surfaces of null curves on 3-null cone have the applications in the studying of horizon types. Via the pseudo-scalar product and Frenet equations, the differential geometry of null curves on 3-null cone is obtained. In the local sense, the curvature describes the contact of submanifolds with pseudo-spheres.

Inference When a Nuisance Parameter Is Not Identified under the Null Hypothesis

, 1996
Many econometric testing problems involve nuisance parameters which are not identified under the null hypotheses. This paper studies the asymptotic distribution theory for such tests. The asymptotic distributions of standard test statistics are described

PERMANOVA, ANOSIM, and the Mantel test in the face of heterogeneous dispersions: What null hypothesis are you testing?

, 2013
ANOSIM, PERMANOVA, and the Mantel test are all resemblance-based permutation methods widely used in ecology. Here, we report the results of the first simulation study, to our knowledge, specifically designed to examine the effects of heterogeneity of ...

Null Hypothesis Testing: Problems, Prevalence, and an Alternative

, 2000
This paper presents a review and critique of statistical null hypothesis testing in ecological studies in general, and wildlife studies in particular, and describes an alternative.

On Null Subjects and Null Arguments

Canadian Journal of Linguistics/Revue canadienne de linguistique, 1993
In the literature on Null Subject Languages (NSLs) since Rizzi (1982), the three properties that are commonly thought to be connected are (i) the richness of inflectional morphology, (ii) free subject inversion, and (iii) the COMP-trace effect. The connection between them is that if a language (e.g., Italian) has the option of having a null subject (NS)

Γ‎-Null and Γ‎N-Null Sets

2012
This chapter introduces the notions of Γ‎-null and Γ‎ₙ-null sets, which are σ‎-ideals of subsets of a Banach space X. Γ‎-null set is key for the strongest known general Fréchet differentiability results in Banach spaces, whereas Γ‎ₙ-null set presents a new, more refined concept.

Null subjects

Parameter Hierarchies and Universal Grammar, 2019
After a brief historical sketch of work on null subjects, and a summary of Barbosa’s proposals concerning the relation between partial and radical null subjects, the chapter presents a typology of null arguments which links their properties directly to ...

NOD/SCID/gamma(c)(null) mouse: an excellent recipient mouse model for engraftment of human cells.

Blood, 2002
To establish a more appropriate animal recipient for xenotransplantation, NOD/SCID/gamma(c)(null) mice double homozygous for the severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mutation and interleukin-2Rgamma (IL-2Rgamma) allelic mutation (gamma(c)(null)) were ...
