A review of the repeated name penalty: implications for null subject languages

open access: yesRevista Linguística, 2015
This is a critical review of the anaphoric processing delay known as the Repeated Name Penalty (RNP: Gordon, Grosz, & Gilliom, 1993). In this paper I argue that the RNP should be understood as an interaction effect between the anaphor type and the ...

Wide-focus subject-verb inversion in Ibero-Romance: A locative account

open access: yesGlossa, 2016
This paper explores the hypothesis that wide-focus subject-verb inversion in Ibero-Romance is a type of locative inversion, involving a null locative argument.

“Null-subjectivities”, language and learning: We need to disturb meaningfulness

open access: yes, 2023
In this study we explore the harmful impacts of understandings of languages as pure categories, especially for marginalized groups (BAUMAN; BRIGGS 2003; MAKONI; PENNYCOOK, 2007; MOITA LOPES, 2013). In dialogue with narratives produced by Filhos, a student of a pre-university course for young people and adults from popular classes, we reflect on the ...

South Dravidian Languages: Consistent Null Subject or Discourse Pro-Drop?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Linguistics, 2023
Indian languages are not mentioned in any of the canonical literature on null subject languages as they do not fall in a specific subcategory neatly. They show a relatively consistent conjugation system, but have more features of Radical pro-drop languages than Consistent Null-Subject languages.

Structure‐Dependent Resonant Frequency Engineering of Textile Tactile Sensors Toward Rapid and Precise Braille Recognition Surpassing Human Sensation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A resonant frequency engineering strategy is proposed to modulate the sensibility of piezoresistive textile‐based tactile sensor. It achieves simultaneous detection of static pressure and dynamic vibrations across an unprecedented bandwidth of 5–600 Hz, surpassing human sensation, therefore enables rapid and precise braille recognition.

Null safety benchmarks for object initialization

open access: yesТруды Института системного программирования РАН, 2018
Null pointer dereferencing remains one of the major issues in modern object-oriented languages. An obvious addition of keywords to distinguish between never null and possibly null references appears to be insufficient during object initialization when ...

Predication and equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
English is one language where equative sentences and non-equative sentences have a similar surface syntax (but see Heggie 1988 and Moro 1997 for a discussion of more subtle differences).

Synergistic Effects of Solid Electrolyte Mild Sintering and Lithium Surface Passivation for Enhanced Lithium Metal Cycling in All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study proposes a synergistic strategy combining mild sintering of solid electrolyte pellets with lithium metal surface passivation, effectively suppressing dendrite growth, and enhancing interfacial stability. This approach doubles the critical current density of symmetric cells (1.1 to 2.2 mA cm−2) and extends full cells cycle life at 1 mA cm−2 ...

The topic-prominence parameter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This article aims to recast the properties of topic-prominent languages and their differences from subject-prominent languages as documented in the functionalist literature into the framework of the Principle-and-Parameter approach.

Intrinsic Mechanical Parameters and their Characterization in Solid‐State Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
This review focuses on the intrinsic mechanical parameters and their associated characterization in solid‐state batteries. The physical significance of mechanics parameters is introduced with exhaustive classifications by elastic, plastic deformations and fracture in bulk, adhesion, friction at interfaces, and mechanical fatigue in cells ...
