This study examines how helicoidal architectures with different porosities respond to bending. Adjusting layer angle and spacing in 3D‐printed polymers reveals clear tradeoffs between stiffness, strength, and energy absorption. Experiments and simulations highlight designs that distribute stress effectively, offering pathways for optimizing lightweight

Minimum weighted number of tardy jobs on an m-machine flow-shop with a critical machine
We study a flow-shop problem, where each of the jobs is limited to no more than two operations. One of these operations is common for all the jobs, and is performed on the same ("critical") machine.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

A note on the single machine scheduling to minimize the number of tardy jobs with deadlines
It is known that the single machine scheduling problem of minimizing the number of tardy jobs is polynomially solvable. However, it becomes NP-hard if each job has a deadline. Recently, Huo et al.

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Motivated by just-in-time manufacturing, we consider a single machine scheduling problem with dual criteria, i.e., the minimization of the total weighted earliness subject to minimum number of tardy jobs.
