Number-Processing Skills in Adults with Dyslexia
The present study investigated basic numerical skills and arithmetic in adults with developmental dyslexia. Participants performed exact and approximate calculation, basic numerical tasks (e.g., counting; symbolic number comparison; spatial–numerical association of response codes, SNARC), and visuospatial tasks (mental rotation and visual search tasks).

Approximation of the Number of Descendants in Branching Processes
AbstractWe discuss approximations of the relative limit densities of descendants in Galton–Watson processes that follow from the Karlin–McGregor near-constancy phenomena. These approximations are based on the fast exponentially decaying Fourier coefficients of Karlin–McGregor functions and the binomial coefficients.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

On the number of points of a homogeneous poisson process
Consider a homogeneous \(d\)-dimensional Poisson process. The authors study the limiting behaviour of maximal and minimal number of points in certain families of sets of volume \(V_ T\) in \([0,T]^ d\), where \(0< V_ T\leq T^ d\) and \(\lim_{T\to\infty} V_ T/T^ d= 0\). Weak (i.e. in probability) limit theorems can be established provided that one knows

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Determinantal Processes with Number Variance Saturation [PDF]
Consider Dyson's Hermitian Brownian motion model after a finite time S, where the process is started at N equidistant points on the real line. These N points after time S form a determinantal process and has a limit as N tends to infinity. This limting determinantal proceess has the interesting feature that it shows number variance saturation.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

The role of number notation: sign-value notation number processing is easier than place-value
Number notations can influence the way numbers are handled in computations; however, the role of notation itself in mental processing has not been examined directly.

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
