Comparison of flow and dispersion properties of free and wall turbulent jets for source dynamics characterisation

open access: yes, 2009
The objective of this paper is to provide an investigation, using large eddy simulations, into the dispersion of aircraft jets in co-flowing take-off conditions.

Searching convective/absolute instability boundary for flows with fully numerical dispersion relation

open access: yes, 2001
The numerical aspects of finding a complete boundary separating regions of convective and absolute instabilities are discussed in the example of mixed convection flow.

Inverse scattering designs of dispersion-engineered single-mode planar waveguides

open access: yes
We use an inverse-scattering (IS) approach to design single-mode waveguides with controlled linear and higher-order dispersion. The technique is based on a numerical solution to the Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko integral equation, for the inversion of ...

Numerical simulation of drifting sand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Two-phase flows are involved in many industrial and natural flow phenomena varying from as specific as the transport of crude oil in pipelines to as general as the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere.

A tunable WDM wavelength converter based on cross phase modulation effects in normal dispersion holey fiber

open access: yes, 2003
We demonstrate a tunable wavelength-division-multiplexing wavelength converter based on cross-phase modulation in just 5.8m of highly nonlinear normal dispersion holey fiber (HF) and incorporating a precise compression-tuned apodized fiber-grating filter.

A second-order accurate numerical approximation for the Riesz space fractional advection-dispersion equation

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we consider a space Riesz fractional advection-dispersion equation. The equation is obtained from the standard advection-diffusion equation by replacing the ¯rst-order and second-order space derivatives by the Riesz fractional derivatives ...

Evaluation of results of a numerical simulation of dispersion in an idealised urban area for emergency response modelling

open access: yes, 2009
WinMISKAM is evaluated from an emergency response perspective. Comparisons are made between ground level concentrations observed during selected Mock Urban Setting Test (MUST) field trials and predictions generated by the model. The model was driven by 5

Multi-Size-Mesh, Multi-Time-Step Algorithm for Noise Computation on Curvilinear Meshes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Aeroacoustic problems are often multi-scale and a zonal refinement technique is thus desirable to reduce computational effort while preserving low dissipation and low dispersion errors from the numerical scheme.

Numerical Dissipation and Dispersion of the Homogeneous and Complete Flux Schemes

open access: yes, 2014
We analyse numerical dissipation and dispersion of the homogeneous flux (HF) and complete flux (CF) schemes, finite volume methods introduced in [4]. To that purpose we derive the modified equation of both schemes . We show that the HF scheme suffers from numerical diffusion for dominant advection, which is effectively removed in the CF scheme.

Upscaling multi-component two-phase flow in porous media with partitioning coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper deals with the upscaling of multicomponents two-phase flow in porous media. In this paper, chemical potential equilibrium at the interface between both phases is assumed to be described by a linear partitioning relationship such as Raoult or ...
