An Improved Approach to Wave Energy Resource Characterization for Sea States with Multiple Wave Systems

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Generally, wave energy resource assessment and characterization are performed based on an entire wave spectrum, ignoring the detailed energy features that belong to wave systems, i.e., wind waves and swells. In reality, the energy is separately possessed

Numerical Simulation of Species Segregation and 2D Distribution in the Floating Zone Silicon Crystals

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
The distribution of dopants and impurities in silicon grown with the floating zone method determines the electrical resistivity and other important properties of the crystals.

On the Hughes model and numerical aspects [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE 55th Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2016
We study a crowd model proposed by R. Hughes and we describe a numerical approach to solve it. The Hughes model comprises a Fokker-Planck equation coupled with an eikonal equation with Dirichlet or Neumann data. First, we establish a priori estimates for the solutions. Second, we study radial solutions and identify a shock formation mechanism.

Impacts of the Surface Potential Vorticity Circulation over the Tibetan Plateau on the East Asian Monsoon in July

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Based on the definition of potential vorticity substance (W) and its equation, an index “iPV” representing the leading mode of the surface potential vorticity circulation (PVC) over the Tibetan Plateau is defined to characterize the orographic potential ...

Enhancing runoff-infiltration partitioning in the SVS land surface model improves streamflow simulations under frozen soil conditions [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences
Soil freezing is a major cold region process that influences hydrological response of northern catchments, in particular during winter rainfall and snowmelt events.

Tidal resonance in the Gulf of Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2019
The Gulf of Thailand is dominated by diurnal tides, which might be taken to indicate that the resonant frequency of the gulf is close to one cycle per day.

Resolving Gas Bubbles Ascending in Liquid Metal from Low-SNR Neutron Radiography Images

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
We demonstrate a new image processing methodology for resolving gas bubbles travelling through liquid metal from dynamic neutron radiography images with an intrinsically low signal-to-noise ratio.

Discrete element method and its application to the analysis of penetration into granular media

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2004
Application of discrete element method (DEM) to keel penetration in granular media is investigated. The basic relations for visco‐elastic granular media composed of spherical particles are presented, together with 5th order Gear predictor‐corrector ...

Generation of the unstructured fe-grids for complex 2d objects/Nestruktūrinių be tinklų generavimas sudėtingiems dvimačiams objektams

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2000
For the numerical simulation of engineering problems, the finite element method (FEM) is among the most popular approaches. One of the main concerns in a finite element analysis is the adequacy of the finite element grid.
