Three-dimensional slope stability model of the Turaida castle mound [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2021
The state-of-the-art finite element software Plaxis 3D was applied in a real-world study site of the Turaida castle mound to investigate the slope stability of the mound and understand the mechanisms triggering landslides there.

Algorithm for calculating the problem of unilateral frictional contact with an increscent external load parameter

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2023
The subject of the study is the contact interaction of deformable elements of linear complementarity problem (LCP). To solve the linear complementarity problem, the Lemke method with the introduction of an increasing parameter of external loading is used.

Parametric analysis related to dimensioning of tubular steel columns filled with concrete in a fire situation

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2021
For the dimensioning of structural elements in fire situation, simplified equations and parameters are commonly used in analytical equations or numerical models.

Investigation and Validation of Numerical Models for Composite Wind Turbine Blades

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
As the world shifts to using renewable sources of energy, wind energy has been established as one of the leading forms of renewable energy. As the requirement for wind energy increases, so too does the size of the turbines themselves, where the latest ...

A numerical model for durotaxis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 2011
Cell migration is a phenomenon that is involved in several physiological processes. In the absence of external guiding factors it shares analogies with Brownian motion. The presence of biochemical or biophysical cues, on the other hand, can influence cell migration transforming it in a biased random movement.

Simulated and Verification of Mass and Heat Transfer Coupled Model of Jujube Slices Dried by Hot Air Combined with Radio Frequency Heat Treatment at Different Drying Stages

open access: yesFoods, 2023
This study investigates the impact of radio frequency (RF) heat treatment on heat and mass transfer during the hot air drying of jujube slices. Experiments were conducted at different drying stages, comparing single-hot air drying with hot air combined ...

Feasibility of numerical simulation methods on the Cold Gas Dynamic Spray (CGDS) Deposition process for ductile materials

open access: yesManufacturing Review, 2020
The techniques of cold gas dynamic spray (CGDS) coating involve the deposition of solid, high speed micron to nano particles onto a substrate. In contrast to a thermal spray, CGDS does not melt particles to retain their physico-chemical properties. There

Analysis of Flow and Land Use on the Hydraulic Structure of Southeast Mexico City: Implications on Flood and Runoff

open access: yesLand, 2023
The southeast of Mexico City is one of the last areas of environmental importance for the region. However, rapid urban expansion has led to a runoff increase in the presence of intense rainfall.

On the Hughes model and numerical aspects [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE 55th Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2016
We study a crowd model proposed by R. Hughes and we describe a numerical approach to solve it. The Hughes model comprises a Fokker-Planck equation coupled with an eikonal equation with Dirichlet or Neumann data. First, we establish a priori estimates for the solutions. Second, we study radial solutions and identify a shock formation mechanism.
