Numerical Entropy Production for Central Schemes

SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2004
Summary: A detailed study of the numerical entropy production for both low- and high-order central schemes is carried out. Our data show that entropy production can be used to signal the presence of shocks. Moreover, once shocked cells have been identified, the spurious entropy production occurring in the remaining cells mimics the behavior of the ...

On the Conditional Consistency of an Explicit Numerical Scheme

Journal of Computational Physics, 1995
The authors analyse an explicit scheme for the solution of partial differential equations, presented by \textit{J. L. Richardson, R. C. Ferrell} and \textit{L. N. Long} [J. Comput. Phys. 104, No. 1, 69-74 (1993; Zbl 0766.76061)] for solving nonlinear fluid dynamics problems. The present study, with application to the one-dimensional diffusion equation,

Numerical Integration Schemes

2011
In the previous two parts of this book we have covered a lot of physics. In the process we have managed to largely avoid getting into complex numerical issues. In this fourth and last part of the book we will discuss, over the next two chapters, some technical and numerical issues that youll need to consider if you are building more complex simulations,

A pseudospectral scheme for the numerical calculation of shocks

Journal of Computational Physics, 1982
Abstract A pseudospectral numerical scheme is developed in order to calculate the propagation of a shock wave. We use a two-step time-differencing method and a Chebyshev transform method to compute the space derivative. Such a scheme has been used to reduce the oscillations due to Gibb's phenomenon. This numerical method is applied to the solution of

Exact numerical schemes and the three means

International Journal of Computer Mathematics, 1991
Grids based on geometric and harmonic sequences are used here in defining approximations to derivatives which have second order accuracy. Such schemes are superior to the usual arithmetic difference grids for important classes of functions exhibiting significant variation—such as a singularity in a region. Furthermore, the approximations to derivatives

A numerical scheme for a class of sweeping processes

Numerische Mathematik, 2010
The paper deals with a special class of differential inclusions related to perturbed sweeping processes by uniformly prox-regular sets. In the first main part of the paper, the author provides sufficient conditions for the corresponding initial value problems to be well posed in the usual analytical sense.

A new numerical scheme for the CIR process

Monte Carlo Methods and Applications, 2015
Abstract In this paper we generalize an explicit numerical scheme for the CIR process that we have proposed before. The advantage of the new proposed scheme is that preserves positivity and is well posed for a (little bit) broader set of parameters among the positivity preserving schemes.
