Reproducibility and the Concept of Numerical Solution

Minds and Machines, 2019
In this paper, we show that reproducibility is a severe problem that concerns simulation models. The reproducibility problem challenges the concept of numerical solution and hence the conception of what a simulation actually does. We provide an expanded picture of simulation that makes visible those steps of simulation modeling that are numerically ...

On the numerical solution of fault trees

Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2003
Abstract In this paper an account will be given of the numerical solution of the logic trees directly extracted from the Recursive Operability Analysis. Particular attention will be devoted to the use of the NOT and INH logic gates for correct logical representation of Fault Trees prior to their quantitative resolution.

The Numerical Solution of Schrödinger's Equation

Physical Review, 1934
Schr\"odinger's equation may be approximated to any desired accuracy by a difference equation over a lattice covering the region of integration. The solutions of this difference equation minimize a certain quadratic form (analogous to the energy integral $\ensuremath{\int}{\ensuremath{\psi}}^{*}H\ensuremath{\psi}$) subject to certain normalization and,

Numerical Solutions in Remote Sensing

Applied Optics, 1975
Several aspects of the behavior of Fredholm integral equations are examined in this paper. It is shown that collocation methods are better in general than least squares methods in linear approaches. The amplification of random noise inherent to the numerical inversion of the equation puts an upper limit to the information content of an ill-conditioned ...

Numerical solutions

1999
This chapter examines the numerical solutions of pH problems in order of their increasing complexity, and of the sophistication and numerical prowess of the tools needed for their solution. First, it uses the logarithmic concentration diagram to visualize the proton condition.

On the Numerical Solution of the Hydrodynamic Equations

SIAM Review, 1961
IN GENERAL, SOLUTIONS TO THE ONE-DIMENSIONAL, unisteady hydrodynamic equations can only be obtained by numerical integration. Several methods of performing such an integration are possible [1-6]. Thus a choice of method must be made, and unless this decision is made with care, considerable labor can be expended in arriving at the optimum method for the

A Numerical Solution for Wootters Correlation

2014
This paper describes QDsim, a parallel application designed to compute the quantum concurrence by calculating the Wootters correlation of a quantum system. The system is based on a two-level two quantum dots inside a resonant cavity. A Beowulf-like cluster was used for running QDsim.
