Special Approach for Thermal Modelling Fibre-Reinforced Composites with Larger Aspect Ratio

open access: yesCommunications, 2012
Fundamental solutions and their derivatives located along fibre axes are presented to simulate the interactions of matrix and reinforcing elements in composite materials, when the primary field is a scalar function temperature in heat conduction.

Biomechanical Analysis and Injury Prediction in Pilots With Lumbar Spondylolysis Under Different Seat Inclination Angles

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 1, March 2026.
The biomechanical responses of three lumbar models under both seat angles remain below injury thresholds. However, the occurrence of spondylolysis at a 22° angle poses a higher risk. ABSTRACT Background This study aims to quantify the biomechanical effects of different seat inclinations on the normal and spondylolysis lumbar of pilots under typical ...

Effect of the Strut Thickness on the Mechanical Properties, Deformation, and Failure Mechanisms of Vascular Bundle–Inspired Structures

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
The vascular bundle–inspired structure design involved developing a unit cell and rotating it by 45° for 2D/3D assembly. Unit cells varied in strut thickness (t) from 0.2 to 1.15 mm. Finite element model (FEM) analysis under quasi‐static compression yielded stress–strain curves and stress/strain maps.

Rotary 4D Printing of Programmable Metamaterials on Sustainable 4D Mandrel

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 1, 8 January 2026.
The paper introduces open, rotary 4D printing of programmable tubular metamaterials. It presents an open, non‐planar path‐to‐G‐code pipeline and shape‐changing rotary mandrel that enable support‐free fabrication and multi‐stimuli actuation. Experiments and FEA validate the mentioned features and stress redistribution.

The Future of NURBS in CAD: Trends and Innovations [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) remain central to CAD. Their key strength lies in precision, especially for modeling intricate curves and surfaces. Engineers continue to rely on them. Yet technology advances.

Interactive rendering of NURBS surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesComputer-Aided Design, 2014

Higher‐Order, Mixed‐Hybrid Finite Elements for Kirchhoff–Love Shells

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 126, Issue 21, 15 November 2025.
ABSTRACT A novel mixed‐hybrid method for Kirchhoff–Love shells is proposed that enables the use of classical, possibly higher‐order Lagrange elements in numerical analyses. In contrast to purely displacement‐based formulations that require higher continuity of shape functions as in isogeometric analysis (IGA), the mixed formulation features ...

NURBS‐enhanced finite element method (NEFEM) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2008
AbstractAn improvement to the classical finite element (FE) method is proposed. It is able to exactly represent the geometry by means of the usual CAD description of the boundary with non‐uniform rational B‐splines (NURBS). Here, the 2D case is presented.
