The NNN Formalization: Review and Development of Guideline Specification in the Care Domain [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Due to an ageing society, it can be expected that less nursing personnel will be responsible for an increasing number of patients in the future. One way to address this challenge is to provide system-based support for nursing personnel in creating, executing, and adapting patient care processes.

Cardiac Organoid Model Inspired Micro‐Robot Smart Patch to Treat Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The heart organoid model exhibits the acidic microenvironment characteristic of myocardial infarction, which emerges as a pivotal force propelling the movement of micro‐robots. These micro‐robots, administered through microneedles, can penetrate deep into the tissue, effectively delivering therapeutic payloads to facilitate heart repair.

AAVR Expression is Essential for AAV Vector Transduction in Sensory Hair Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Decreased sensitivity to AAV vector transduction in the outer hair cells (OHCs) of adult mice is primarily attributed to reduction of AAVR (Kiaa0319l; Au040320). Knockout of AAVR reduces AAV vector transduction efficiency in both inner hair cells (IHCs) and OHCs in neonatal mice.

Long‐Lasting Auditory and Vestibular Recovery Following Gene Replacement Therapy in a Novel Usher Syndrome Type 1c Mouse Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that gene replacement therapy using the AAV2/Anc80L65 virus can successfully restore hearing and balance in Ush1c knockout mice. The treatment leads to lasting improvements in both auditory and vestibular functions, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic approach for genetic hearing loss and vestibular disorders in humans ...

Correlation Between Fecal Microbiota and Corticosteroid Responsiveness in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia: an Exploratory Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses gut microbiome data to predict corticosteroid response in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Fecal samples from 212 patients with ITP are sequenced. Six machine‐learning algorithms are used to train predictive models. The support vector machine‐based model integrated clinical data and selected microbial species, diversities ...

Evaluation of the nursing process utilization in a teaching hospital, Ogun State, Nigeria

open access: yes, 2017
Context: Nursing process is the systematic method of thinking used by nurses to develop an individualized plan of care for patients. Effective use of the nursing process depends on a nurse's familiarity with the standardized nursing language.

Neuraminidase 1 Exacerbated Glycolytic Dysregulation and Cardiotoxicity by Destabilizing SIRT1 through Interactions with NRF2 and HIF1α

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NEU1, a key regulator of glycolysis, is markedly upregulated following DOX treatment. This upregulation is attributed to HIF1α’s transcriptional repression, requiring intricate interactions with NRF2. Increased NEU1 facilitates SIRT1 lysosomal degradation, contributing to aberrant glycolytic phenotype and cardiac damage.

Fall Detector Adapted to Nursing Home Needs through an Optical-Flow based CNN [PDF]

open access: yes42nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society - EMBC2020, Jul 2020, Montreal, Canada, 2020
Fall detection in specialized homes for the elderly is challenging. Vision-based fall detection solutions have a significant advantage over sensor-based ones as they do not instrument the resident who can suffer from mental diseases. This work is part of a project intended to deploy fall detection solutions in nursing homes.
