Prandtl number dependence of Nusselt number in direct numerical simulations

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2000
The dependence of the Nusselt number Nu on the Rayleigh Ra and Prandtl Pr number is determined for 104 < Ra < 107 and 0.07 < Pr < 7 using DNS with no-slip upper and lower boundaries and free-slip sidewalls in a 8 × 8 × 2 box. Nusselt numbers, velocity scales and boundary layer thicknesses are calculated.

Guidance on Nusselt Number Correlation Selection in Membrane Distillation

open access: yesACS ES&T Engineering, 2022
Nusselt number correlations are the defacto method for estimating heat transport rates in membrane distillation (MD) models. Accurate selection and application of Nusselt number correlations, however, is complicated by a large number of available ...

On the drag coefficient and averaged Nusselt number of an ellipsoidal particle in a fluid [PDF]

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2018
The paper aims to improve existing correlations for the drag coefficient and averaged Nusselt number of an ellipsoidal particle in a fluid by additionally considering its orientation. To do so, three-dimensional Immersed Boundary-Lattice Boltzmman Method

A regenerator—prediction of nusselt numbers

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1969
Abstract The dynamics of a parallel plate regenerative heat exchanger are studied using a model in which resistance to heat transfer is due to diffusional resistance in the fluid in the direction transverse to flow. The resultant Nusselt number is a function of time as well as longitudinal distance from the entrance of the exchanger and is not a ...

Nusselt number of a sphere in creeping flow

International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1990
Abstract Rates of heat or mass transfer from a spherical droplet translating in a field under creeping flow conditions are examined. The existing expressions for Nusselt numbers are evaluated via an independent numerical analysis.

A New Nusselt Number for Complicated Configurations

Volume 3: Gas Turbine Heat Transfer; Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing and Manufacturing; Heat Transfer in Electronic Equipment; Symposium in Honor of Professor Richard Goldstein; Symposium in Honor of Prof. Spalding; Symposium in Honor of Prof. Arthur E. Bergles, 2013
Convective heat transfer over surfaces is generally presented in the form of the heat-transfer coefficient (h) or its nondimensional form, the Nusselt number (Nu). Both require the specification of the free-stream temperature (Too) or the bulk (Tb) temperature, which are clearly defined only for simple configurations.

On the Monotonicity of the Nusselt Number as a Function of the Peclet Number

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1994
Summary: The author considers an arbitrarily shaped body of finite extent that is kept at a constant temperature and immersed in an infinitely large fluid bath. If the temperature on the body is greater than the ambient temperature of the fluid, it is shown that the heat necessary to keep the body temperature fixed is a monotonically increasing ...
