Review of Scientific Instruments, 1970In pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance a random variation of the nutation angle is produced if the rf pulse initiation occurs at a random phase with respect to the rf carrier. The effect is most important at low resonance frequencies and large rf pulse amplitudes.

The error owing to the use of a transfer function for a biaxial earth in calculating the nutation angles on a nanosecond accuracy level is estimated. The corresponding errors in the absolute magnitudes of the nutation angles for different amounts of dynamic compression of the earth’s core are obtained.

Interaction of elongated steel cylindrical strikers with concrete barriers at a velocity of 1000 m/s is studied numerically. The problem is solved by the finite element method, in a three-dimensional formulation within the framework of the phenomenological approach to the mechanics of a deformable solid using the author's software package EFES.
