Nutrient intake in lysinuric protein intolerance

Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 2007
SummaryLysinuric protein intolerance (LPI) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective transport of cationic amino acids. Poor intestinal absorption and increased renal loss of arginine, ornithine and lysine lead to low plasma concentrations of these amino acids and, subsequently, to impaired urea cycle function.

[Daily nutrient intake in hemodialysis].

Giornale italiano di nefrologia : organo ufficiale della Societa italiana di nefrologia, 2003
Although there is a higher nutrient requirement, food intake in haemodialysis patients is often inadequate. Protein nitrogen appearance (PNA) indirectly estimates the mean protein intake during the short interdialysis period, but it does not measure the daily nutrient intake, which is generally unknown.

High Nutrient Intakes—The Toxicologist's View

The Journal of Nutrition, 1989
At sufficiently high intake all substances, including essential nutrients, can be toxic. Toxicity may be described by characteristics of the symptoms (identity, severity and degree of persistence) and by the dose-response relationship (threshold, slope, limit, susceptibility to modulation by other substances and tendency to bioaccumulate).
