Alkalization of nutrient solutions by sorghum

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1993
Abstract Total carbonate and non‐carbonate alkalinity as well as concentrations of nitrate (NO3‐), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), and phosphate (PO43‐) ions in nutrient solutions were monitored for 40 days during sorghum growth from seedling emergence.

Control of microorganisms in flowing nutrient solutions

Advances in Space Research, 1994
Controlling microorganisms in flowing nutrient solutions involves different techniques when targeting the nutrient solution, hardware surfaces in contact with the solution, or the active root zone. This review presents basic principles and applications of a number of treatment techniques, including disinfection by chemicals, ultrafiltration ...

Photochemistry in Hoagland's Nutrient Solution

Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2003
Atrazine photodegraded (in the absence of plants) in Hoagland's hydroponic medium in sunlight. The medium contained two important solar UV absorbing species, complexed iron and nitrate. Increasing the concentrations of iron or of nitrate resulted in increased rates of atrazine loss.

Biotechnology: A Solution for Improving Nutrient Bioavailability

International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, 2002
Biotechnology strategies are now available to improve the amount and availability of nutrients in plant crops. Those strategies include simple plant selection for varieties with high nutrient density in the seeds, cross-breeding for incorporating a desired trait within a plant, and genetic engineering to manipulate the nutrient content of the plant ...

Soil Water as a Nutrient Solution

2019
The soil solution is first presented at equilibrium, introducing the concepts of Gibbs free energy, ion activity, activity coefficients, activity of ionic solutions and ionic strength. The Donnan theory for colloids in suspension and the double ionic layer of clay minerals in soils are very well described, to introduce the concepts of cation exchange ...
