Utilization of Energy Nutrients by Cerebellar Slices
Neurochemical Research, 2002We performed an ontogenetic study about the utilization of glycine, glutamine, beta-hydroxybutyrate and glycerol as energy nutrients by rat cerebellum slices. Production of CO2 from glycerol and glutamine increased with the animals' age and glutamine was the most used nutrient for CO2 production.

Plant Phenols Utilized as Nutrients by a Phytophagous Insect
Science, 1982Phenols are commonly regarded as feeding deterrents for phytophagous insects, but the tree locust Anacridium melanorhodon survives better and grows faster when certain phenols are added to a food plant that is relatively low in both protein and phenols. The phenols are at high concentration in the common host plants.

Nutrient Utilization: Workshop Summary
1987The central theme of this workshop was the utilization of specific minerals and vitamins from human milk and an evaluation of the adequacy of these nutrients in milk to support growth and development of normal term and premature infants. The trace elements iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium; the minerals calcium and phosphorus; and a water ...

Nutrient utilization in Acinetobacter colonization
2023Acinetobacter baumannii is a critical public health threat due to its rapid spread in healthcare facilities and its high rates of multidrug resistance. The human gut has been identified as a potential reservoir for A. baumannii colonization and spread in hospitals. Colonization by Acinetobacter spp.

Utilization of the Energy of Absorbed Nutrients
1990In view of the importance of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) as a source of energy for ruminants, this section will emphasize their significance. Since the Cambridge team, led by Sir John Barcroft, established that VFAs were in fact the main source of energy for these animals, much effort has been devoted to investigating their role in detail. This has led

Urban Utilization of Plant Nutrients
1993As the world population increases, more people are choosing to make their homes in the desert environments throughout the world. As new population centers develop, there is a great demand for city parks, golf courses, and other recreation areas. The landscaping of new home sites and all types of recreation areas require large quantities of plant ...

Computational modeling of nutrient utilization in engineered cartilage
Biotechnology Progress, 2013This study presents a mathematical model for simulating cartilaginous culture of chondrocytes seeded in scaffolds and for investigating the effects of glucose and oxygen concentration and pH value on cell metabolic rates. The model can clearly interpret the unexplained experimental observation (Sengers BG, Heywood HK, Lee DA, Oomens CWJ, Bader DL ...

Nutrient metabolism and utilization in the liver
Livestock Production Science, 1994Abstract The role of ruminant liver in modifying the profile of absorbed nutrients before presented to peripheral tissues is illustrated with literature data on hepatic nutrient exchanges. These data are mainly from experiments with multicatheterized dairy cows enabling estimation of blood flow rates and nutrient balances across the liver.

Nutrient Utilization in Term Infants
1987The provision of optimal nutrition during infancy is paramount considering the rapidity with which infants grow during the postnatal period. Human growth rate is the highest in infancy, with the exception of that experienced in utero. Median growth rate in infancy is about 10 g/Kg/d at 2 to 4 weeks, 3.5 g/Kg/d at 12 to 16 weeks, and 1 g/Kg/day at the ...

Influence of Dietary Aluminum on Nutrient Utilization in Ruminants
Journal of Animal Science, 1984Aluminum enters the ruminant diet through plant-accumulated Al, soil ingestion, feed and water contamination, and as an additive to alter metabolism or absorption of other minerals. Ingested Al is usually poorly absorbed and has been shown to depress utilization of dietary F and P, largely due to the formation of insoluble, nonabsorbable Al complexes ...
