Climatic niche comparison of raccoons Procyon lotor and raccoon dogs Nyctereutes procyonoides in their native and non‐native ranges

open access: yesMammal Review, 2021
During the last century, the practice of fur farming in Europe led to the introduction of two mammal species from opposite ends of the world With their subsequent unintentional escape from captivity or intentional releases, the process of slow expansion ...

Avian influenza overview September–November 2025

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Between 6 September and 28 November 2025, 2896 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus detections were reported in domestic (442) and wild (2454) birds in 29 countries in Europe. The magnitude and geographical extent of these detections were unprecedented for this time of the year, particularly in wild birds.

Compound Mosaicism, Caused by B Chromosome Variability, in the Chinese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides procyonoides)

open access: yesFolia Biologica, 2005
The distribution of B chromosomes in a group of twenty-six farm Chinese raccoon dogs was analysed using Giemsa staining and sequentional Q/C banding techniques. It was shown that three different types of B chromosomes are widely distributed among the studied animals.

Seasonal activity changes in raccoon dogs and influences of environmental factors from autumn to winter

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2025, Issue 6, November 2025.
Raccoon dogs Nyctereutes procyonoides are on the List of National Key Protected Wild Animals as Grade II in China; research on their wild populations is limited despite their conservation significance. In this context, we focused on seasonal activity changes from autumn to winter and their relationship to environmental and mammalian factors.

Identifying Priority Habitats for Dung Beetle Conservation: Taxonomic and Functional Responses Across a Land‐Use Disturbance Gradient

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
Anthropogenic land‐use change and resource exploitation are driving declines in dung beetle communities, highlighting the need to identify priority habitats and species for conservation. This study assessed taxonomic and functional diversity of dung beetles across a land‐use disturbance gradient and different dung types using dung‐baited pitfall traps.

Avian influenza overview June–September 2025

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Between 7 June and 5 September 2025, 183 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus detections were reported in domestic (27) and wild (156) birds across 15 countries in Europe. Although HPAI A(H5N1) virus detections were predominant in western and southwestern Europe, they also occurred on the northernmost coast of Norway. More than

Listeriosis in a Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) Associated with Canine Distemper.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2000
A wild raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) that manifested severe illness and died was examined. Necropsy revealed severe emaciation, systemic icterus and petechial hemorrhages on the mucous membranes. Histopathologically, necroses were seen in the liver and brain stem associated with meningitis.

Spatial variation in local population dynamics of sika deer, Cervus nippon, through intensified management

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 89, Issue 7, September 2025.
We analyzed sika deer density trends over 27 years in 256 mesh‐units in Hokkaido, Japan. High‐density areas saw sharp declines, while low‐density areas remained stable. Prioritizing management in high‐density areas can improve overall control efficiency. Abstract Population reduction through hunting and nuisance control has been practiced in many parts
