Adding Symmetry: Cylindrically Confined Crystallization of Nylon-6
Macromolecules, 2019It has been known that twin symmetry occurs in small metal crystals and it could lead to ultrahigh mechanical properties. In this research, we first found out the formation of nanoscale twin crystals in polymers under cylindrical confinement. The nylon-6

Polymorphism of nylon‐6 in nylon‐6/nanoclay/functionalized polyolefin blends
Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2007AbstractThe crystallization behavior of Nylon‐6 and the interaction in Nylon‐6/nanoclay/functionalized polyolefin blends were investigated by X‐ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. For samples without any thermal history, the interaction between Nylon‐6 and nanoclay or the interaction between Nylon‐6 and functionalized ...

RIM‐pultrusion of nylon‐6 and rubber‐toughened nylon‐6 composites
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1991AbstractUnidirectionally reinforced thermoplastic composites of Nylon‐6 and polypropylene oxide‐Nylon‐6 block copolymers have been prepared by the reaction injection molding (RIM)‐pultrusion process. This process takes advantage of both the RIM and the pultrusion techniques, while avoiding their inherent shortcomings.

Polymorphism of nylon‐6 in multiwalled carbon nanotubes/nylon‐6 composites
Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2006AbstractThe effects of pristine and amino‐functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on the crystallization behaviors of nylon‐6 were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and X‐ray diffraction. The results indicate the presence of polymorphism in nylon‐6 and its composites, which is dependent on the MWNTs concentration and the ...

Polymorphic behavior of nylon 6/saponite and nylon 6/montmorillonite nanocomposites
Polymer Engineering & Science, 2002Abstract X‐ray diffraction methods and DSC thermal analysis have been used to investigate the structural change of nylon 6/clay nanocomposites. Nylon 6/clay has prepared by the intercalation of ε‐caprolactam and then exfoliaton of the layered saponite or montmorillonite by subsequent polymerization. Both X‐ray diffraction data and DSC

The photodegradation of unprotected bright nylon-6 fiber by exposure to daylight and in the fadeometer has been studied. The degradation has been found to be caused by random scission of the polymer chain. Although the degrada tion produces appreciable changes in the tensile strength and viscosity average molecular weight of the nylon-6 fiber, the ...

Nylon-6 fibers were phosphorylated with diisopropyl phosphorochloridate (DIPC), and the reaction was confirmed by ir spectra. The phosphorus content and percentage of carbon residue were determined. The effect of the reaction temperature, the molar ratio of reactants, and the time of reaction were studied.

Formation and properties of nylon-6 and nylon-6/montmorillonite composite nanofibers
Polymer, 2006Nanocomposite fibers of nylon-6 and an organically modified montmorillonite (O-MMT), Cloisite-30B, were prepared by electrospinning. Dispersion and exfoliation of O-MMT in nylon-6 were achieved by melt-extrusion in a twin-screw extruder prior to dissolving in aqueous formic acid for electrospinning.

Decomposition kinetics of nylon-6/graphite and nylon-6/graphite oxide composites
Thermochimica Acta, 2009Abstract Composite materials of nylon-6/graphite oxide and of nylon-6/graphite were synthesized and their decomposition kinetics determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Our research shows that both graphite and graphite oxide can be used as fillers to enhance the thermal stability of the polymer. The activation energy for the decomposition of
