New insights into the biology of the rare ectoparasitoid rhopalosomatid wasps (Hymenoptera: Rhopalosomatidae) in the Neotropics: parasitoid–host relationships in Brazil and Costa Rica

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 64, Issue 4, November 2025.
Abstract Rhopalosomatidae (Hymenoptera, Vespoidea) are rare ectoparasitoid wasps that parasitize crickets (Grylloidea), with few records documented in the literature, which originate from the Nearctic and Australian regions. Here, we report the first record of Rhopalosomatidae larvae parasitizing crickets of the family Phalangopsidae in the Neotropics.

Method and timing of rhizobacteria inoculation to plant roots alters success and strength of aphid suppression

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 732-741, November 2025.
Inoculating plants with beneficial rhizobacteria using sodium alginate encapsulation to create ‘bacterial beads’ offers a targeted method for pest control for crop plants. Delivering rhizobacteria to roots at germination enhanced aphid suppression compared to seed inoculations.

Genetic variation in zoophagy and dietary shift in the phytozoophagous tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 11, Page 1189-1195, November 2025.
Phytozoophagous insects such as Lygus lineolaris feed on plants and prey. This study assessed the genetic variability and heritability of zoophagy and dietary shift in 15 isofemale lines with access to Ephestia kuehniella eggs and with or without access to plant resources.
