The Effect of Weighted Contact Lens on Physiological Nystagmus in Young Healthy Subjects

open access: yesAuditory and Vestibular Research, 2023
Background and Aim:  Contact lenses correct the visual functioning of patients with   low vision due to congenital nystagmus. This research presents a new method to reduce nystagmus using contact lenses in healthy subjects. Methods: Thirty-three normal people (13 women, 20 men) aged 18 to 25 with an average age of 23.3 years participated in this study.

Expanding Spectrum of FIG4‐Related Neurological Disorders of Lysosomal Homeostasis: Case Report and Overview of the Potential Genotype–Phenotype Correlations

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
FIG4 is essential for lysosomal homeostasis. FIG4‐related disorders present as a continuous spectrum from the juvenile lethality in Yunis‐Varon syndrome to an increased risk of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in adult life. FIG4‐related disorders comprise a novel group of disorders of lysosomal homeostasis and can be classified into severe ...

Walsh & Hoyt: Differences Between Physiologic and Pathologic Nystagmus

open access: yes, 2005
It is important to realize that not all nystagmus is pathologic. Physiologic nystagmus preserves clear vision during self-rotation. Under most circumstances, for example during locomotion, head movements are small and the vestibuloocular reflex is able ...

Significance of Systemic Immune‐Inflammation and Inflammatory Response Indices in Vestibular Neuritis

open access: yesClinical Otolaryngology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study investigated the relationship between vestibular neuritis and various systemic inflammatory indices—namely, neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic immune‐inflammation index (SII), and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) and the ...

Occurrence of Physiologic Gaze-Evoked Nystagmus at Small Angles of Gaze

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2010
Physiologic gaze-evoked nystagmus (GEN) is one of many normal eye movements seen on the neurologic examination. GEN occurring at gaze angles >45 degrees is considered a positive sign in the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test (HGNT) used by United States police officers to determine alcohol intoxication. The authors enrolled 56 subjects after a brief survey ...

Effect of artificial gravity on calcaneal bone marrow adipose tissue and mineral content in female and male participants in 60 days of bed rest

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Modulation of bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) with prolonged inactivity was reported in haemopoietic but not in non‐haemopoietic bones. This prospective randomized controlled trial submitted 16 men and 8 women to 60 days of 6° head‐down‐tilt bed rest.
