Eating quality (EQ) of rice is mainly determined by sensory evaluation using tasting, which is affected by the taster’s geographic residential area, gender, and age. The sensory evaluation protocol also requires rice samples (usually > 500 g) larger than the amount harvested from the early generations of breeding in many cases, thereby hindering the ...

Genetics of silica uptake in selected genotypes of rice (O. sativa L.)
Plant and Soil, 1985Silica uptake was studied in dialel cross involving seven genotypes. Maximum profile of this element was found in leaf followed by stem and root. Regarding its uptake both additive and non-additive genes were involved while the former wa higher in magnitude indicating the scope of individual selection in segregating generations.

An O-methyltransferase (OMT) which methylates the 2'-hydroxyl of isoliquiritigenin (2',4,4'-trihydroxychalcone) was identified in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) seedlings and cell cultures. The OMT activity increased during early stages of seedling development and was predominantly located in roots.

Interspecific Oryza Sativa L. X O. Glaberrima Steud. progenies in upland rice improvement
Euphytica, 1997Fertile interspecific progenies between Oryza sativa L. and O. glaberrima Steud. were produced through backcrossing and doubled haploid breeding (DHB). Backcrossing with the O. sativa parents increased fertility and helped combine the O. sativa and O. glaberrima features.
