Background: Endocrine complications in thalassemia major (TM) are classically considered to be the result of iron deposition in the endocrine glands. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which still remains the commonest endocrinopathy in patients with TM, has been proven to be the result of hemosiderosis of the gonadotroph cells of the pituitary gland.
