Object-based image analysis (OBIA) involves pixels first being grouped into objects based on either spectral similarity or an external variable such as ownership, soil or geological unit. Each object is also part of a 'super-object,' obtained by combining several neighboring objects into one larger, and each can be subdivided into smaller objects ...

Object-based image analysis using multiscale connectivity
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2005This paper introduces a novel approach for image analysis based on the notion of multiscale connectivity. We use the proposed approach to design several novel tools for object-based image representation and analysis which exploit the connectivity structure of images in a multiscale fashion.

With the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery, the use of remote sensing data has become very important for the verification of the nuclear safeguards agreement between a NPT Member State and the IAEA. Items and activities which can be monitored within nuclear facilities are, for instance, construction of buildings, plant expansion ...

Object Based Image Analysis For Delineation Of Slope Units
2021 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium IGARSS, 2021This research focuses on proposing an approach for delineation of slope units from topographic parameters of terrain slope, slope aspect and topographic position index (TPI) extracted from ALOS World 3D digital elevation model (DEM). The research was carried out through segmentation processes at four different levels with varying parameters values of ...

Segmentation and Object-Based Image Analysis
2010This chapter focuses on segmentation of remotely sensed image data and object-based image analysis. It discusses the differences between pixel-based and object-based image analysis; the potential of the object-based approach; and, the application of eCognition software for performing image segmentation and classification at different levels of detail.

Object Based Image Analysis for Urbanized Areas
2010Urbanized areas are characterized by high complexity and diversity caused by repeating of many features – natural and man made. Object Based Image Analysis enables to reduce image complexity by its distribution into several levels of homogenous segments.
