Velocities of Distant Objects in General Relativity Revisited [PDF]
We consider two most popular definitions of velocities of remote objects in General Relativity. Our work has two motivations. From a research point of view, we generalize the formula connecting these two velocities in FRW metrics found by Chodorowski to arbitrary synchronous spherically symmetric metrics.

Gaps, Ghosts and Gapless Relatives in Spoken English [PDF]
This paper looks at the syntax of so-called gapless relative clauses in spoken English. 1 contrasts gap relatives (like that italicised in ?something which I said?, in which there is a gap internally within the relative clause associated with the ...

The plight of the sense-making ape [PDF]
This is a selective review of the published literature on object-choice tasks, where participants use directional cues to find hidden objects. This literature comprises the efforts of researchers to make sense of the sense-making capacities of our ...

Discourse accessibility constraints in childrenʼs processing of object relative clauses
Childrenʼs poor performance on object relative clauses has been explained in terms of intervention locality. This approach predicts that object relatives with a full DP head and an embedded pronominal subject are easier than object relatives in which ...

Cognitive and linguistic factors affecting subject/object asymmetry: An eye-tracking study of prenominal relative clauses in Korean [PDF]
Object relatives (ORs) have been reported to cause heavier processing loads than subject relatives (SRs) in both pre- and postnominal position (prenominal relatives: Miyamoto & Nakamura 2003, Kwon 2008, Ueno & Garnsey 2008; postnominal relatives: King ...

Scene-relative object motion biases depth percepts
Abstract An important function of the visual system is to represent 3D scene structure from a sequence of 2D images projected onto the retinae. During observer translation, the relative image motion of stationary objects at different distances (motion parallax) provides potent depth information. However, if an object moves relative to

Subject Preference and Ergativity [PDF]
This paper presents the first-ever processing experiment on relativization in Avar, an ergative language with prenominal relatives. The results show no processing difference between the ergative subject gap and the absolutive object gap.

Relative recency influences object-in-context memory [PDF]
In two experiments rats received training on an object-in-context (OIC) task, in which they received preexposure to object A in context x, followed by exposure to object B in context y. In a subsequent test both A and B are presented in either context x or context y.
