Explicit substitutions for objects and functions
1998Summary: This paper proposes an implementation of objects and functions via a calculus with explicit substitutions that is confluent and preserves strong normalization. The source calculus corresponds to the combination of the sigma calculus of Abadi and Cardelli and the lambda calculus, and the target calculus corresponds to an extension of the former

Object Shape, Object Function, and Object Name
Journal of Memory and Language, 1998Abstract We investigated the roles of shape and function in object naming. Two-, three-, and five-year-olds and adults heard novel or familiar objects named; some participants also were instructed about the objects' functions. Then they were asked to generalize the names to new objects that preserved shape or functional capability; some participants ...

A procedural object distribution function
ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2005In this article, we present a procedural object distribution function, a new texture basis function that distributes procedurally generated objects over a procedurally generated texture. The objects are distributed uniformly over the texture, and are guaranteed not to overlap.

Functional Object-Oriented Programming with Object-Gofer
1997Object-Gofer is a small, practical extension of the functional programming language Gofer incorporating the following ideas from the object-oriented community: objects and top level classes, subtype and implementation inheritance, method redefinition, late binding and self type specialization.

Teleologies: Objects, Actions and Functions
2017We start from the observation that the notion of concept, as it is used in perception, is distinct and different from the notion of concept, as it is used in knowledge representation. In earlier work we called the first notion, substance concept and the second, classification concept.

Optimising Noisy Objective Functions
Journal of Global Optimization, 2005This discussion paper considers the use of stochastic algorithms for solving global optimisation problems in which function evaluations are subject to random noise. An idea is outlined for discussion at the forthcoming Stochastic Global Optimisation 2001 workshop in Hanmer in June; we propose that a noisy version of pure random search be studied.

LVQ with a weighted objective function
Proceedings of ICNN'95 - International Conference on Neural Networks, 2002In competitive learning neural network, pattern clustering is one of the main research areas. Many competitive neural networks are based on vector quantization. Depending on the method of choosing the representative weight vectors, competitive neural networks have a great variety of algorithms.

Predicting Functional Regions on Objects
2013 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops, 2013We revisit the notion of object affordances, an idea that speaks to an object's functional properties more than its class label. We study the problem of spatially localizing affordances in the form of 2D segmentation masks annotated with discrete affordance labels.

Accommodation as a Function of Object Form
Optometry and Vision Science, 1978ABSTRACT The steady‐state, monocular accommodation response to sinusoidal grating targets was assessed as a function of the spatial frequency of the grating and its vergence at the eye, using a laser optometer. At all levels of accommodative stimulus, the response was found to be dependent on grating frequency. At very low frequencies,

When we say functions are objects in Dart, it may seem confusing if you’re a beginner. Basically, because Dart is an object-oriented language, even functions are objects and have a type called Function.
