Weight Loss after 12 Weeks of Exercise and/or Nutritional Guidance Is Not Obligatory for Induced Changes in Local Fat/Lean Mass Indexes in Adults with Excess of Adiposity [PDF]

open access: yesNutrients, 2020
The objectives of this secondary analysis are (1) to investigate the differential effects of exercise training modalities–high-intensity interval training (HIIT), resistance training (RT), combined training (CT = HIIT + RT), and/or nutritional guidance (NG) alone–on local fat/lean mass indexes in adults with excess of adiposity; (2) to identify the ...

Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

A Phase‐Resolved Geometric Deep Learning Framework Maps Structural Determinants of Disease‐Associated Protein Aggregation and Guides Suppressor Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SKALE 2.0 maps disease‐associated protein aggregation as a phase‐resolved structural process, linking mutation‐induced geometric perturbations to nucleation, elongation, and suppressor design. Across neurodegenerative proteins, the framework reveals cryptic aggregation vulnerabilities, separates phase‐concordant and phase‐switching mutations, and ...

TDP‐43 Aggregation: The Healthy‐Toxic Balance of the Prion‐Like Domain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TDP‐43 function relies on a delicate balance between reversible phase‐separated states and irreversible aggregation. Under physiological conditions, TDP‐43 forms dynamic droplets and oligomers that support normal cellular functions. In pathological contexts, this balance shifts toward aberrant aggregation, leading to toxic species.

The journalist’s identity in the social media: discursive practices and subjectification - doi: 10.4025/actascilangcult.v33i2.13295

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Language and Culture, 2011
Current essay analyzes the materialization of media discursive practices which give identity to the journalist as a subject. The discursive event of such production is investigated within the context of the voting held at the Brazilian Federal Court of ...

Interfacial Control in Cu–MXene Hybrids Enables Selective NOx‐to‐NH3 Electroconversion: A Critical Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cu‐MXene interfacial catalysts provide a promising platform for electrochemical NOx upcycling to ammonia. The synergy between Cu active sites and conductive, surface‐tunable MXene supports promotes NOx adsorption, intermediate stabilization, and selective NH3 formation while suppressing competing hydrogen evolution, offering a route toward sustainable ...

Estrogen receptor-α signaling maintains immunometabolic function in males and is obligatory for exercise-induced amelioration of nonalcoholic fatty liver [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2019
The role of estrogen receptor-α (ERα) signaling in immunometabolic function is established in females. However, its necessity in males, while appreciated, requires further study. Accordingly, we first determined whether lower metabolic function in male mice compared with females is related to reduced ERα expression.

Uncovering renewable energy policy impact channels on land values, the local farm structure, and farmland heterogeneity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (REA), enacted in 2000 and subsequently amended, subsidized national renewable energy production with fixed feed‐in tariffs for renewable energy sources (RE) from wind, solar, and biogas. Empirical studies suggest that the policy was creating windfall effects for landowners and attribute farmland use ...

How to write a thesis?

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2011
A thesis is a written record of the work that has been undertaken by a candidate. It constitutes objective evidence of the author's knowledge and capabilities in the field of interest and is therefore a fair means to gauge them. But the most common,

Making a HIIT: co-design of high-intensity interval training workouts with students & teachers within the curriculum

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2023
Background High-intensity interval training (HIIT) interventions are becoming more common in schools. However, limited input has been sought from end-users, which can help design interventions that are more engaging and context appropriate, therefore ...
