Oblique Impacts of Nanodroplets upon Surfaces

Langmuir, 2022
In this work, oblique impacts of nanodroplets impacting surfaces in a wide range of impact angles (α) are investigated in detail via molecular dynamics simulations. Five outcomes are observed, including deposition, prompt splashing, break-up, separation, and shattering.

The Deep Impact oblique impact cratering experiment

Icarus, 2007
Abstract The Deep Impact probe collided with 9P Tempel 1 at an angle of about 30° from the horizontal. This impact angle produced an evolving ejecta flow field very similar to much smaller scale oblique-impact experiments in porous particulate targets in the laboratory.

Oblique impact modeling of fuzes

International Journal of Impact Engineering, 1996
This paper presents the results of a combined experimental, numerical, and analytical investigation of a low-speed (198 m/s) oblique impact of a cylindrical steel projectile into an aluminum-brass composite fuze simulant. The numerical simulations were performed prior to the experiments using the Lagrangian hydrocode EPIC92.

Oblique impact with friction and tangential compliance

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001
Summary: The present temporal analysis of impact between two rough and compliant hard bodies employs a lumped-parameter model of the small region of contact that suffers significant deformations. This model represents effects of both normal and tangential compliance by means of discrete elements.

Differences in Impact Performance of Bicycle Helmets During Oblique Impacts

Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 2018
Cycling is a leading cause of sport-related head injuries in the U.S. Although bicycle helmets must comply with standards limiting head acceleration in severe impacts, helmets are not evaluated under more common, concussive-level impacts, and limited data are available indicating which helmets offer superior protection.
