Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Oblique hypervelocity impacts into graphite
Investigations have been conducted into the morphology of craters formed by impacts of aluminium and HDPE projectiles at oblique angles to graphite target plates. The experiments were conducted with a two-stage gas gun capable of launching projectiles of differing density and strength to speeds of about 6kms at right angles into target plates.

Color Routing and Beam Steering of Single‐Molecule Emission with a Spherical Silicon Nanoantenna
We experimentally demonstrate broadband directional emission from single molecules using a single spherical silicon nanoparticle assembled via DNA origami. By varying nanoparticle (NP) size and emitter position, we achieve unidirectional emission, beam steering, and color routing at the nanoscale, revealing modal interference as the underlying ...

Why most traumatic brain injuries are not caused by linear acceleration but skull fractures are.
Injury statistics have found the most common accident situation to be an oblique impact. An oblique impact will give rise to both linear and rotational head kinematics. The human brain is most sensitive to rotational motion.

Light trapping in solar cells at the extreme coupling limit [PDF]
We calculate the maximal absorption enhancement obtainable by guided mode excitation in a weakly absorbing dielectric slab over wide wavelength ranges. The slab mimics thin film silicon solar cells in the low absorption regime. We consider simultaneously

Oblique impact jetting of geological materials [PDF]
To understand jetting of earth materials, gabbro slabs ( 5 mm thick) were accelerated to 1.5–2 km/s and impacted inclined gabbro (5–10 mm thick), novaculite (10 mm thick) and porous sandstone (12 mm thick) targets at angles of 30°–60°. The ejecta were collected using a catcher box filled with styrofoam and the particles were extracted using chloroform.
