Wealth inequality and health: observational study

BMJ, 2008
### This month's paper “The global impact of income inequality on health by age: an observational study” by Danny Dorling and colleagues ( BMJ 2007;335:873 doi: 10.1136/bmj.39349.507315.DE). #### Abstract Objectives —To explore whether the apparent impact of income inequality on health, which has been shown for wealthier nations, is replicated ...

Functional observer design using linear matrix inequalities

Optoelectronics, Instrumentation and Data Processing, 2016
© 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.It is shown that the problem of observer design for estimating a set of linear combinations of state variables of a plant can be formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities. An algorithm for constructing functional observers is proposed based on a nonsingular transformation of a plant model in the state space by matrix

Observations on certain inequality conditions in plasticity

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 1966
Abstract In this paper it is shown that the thermodynamic reference stress soKL which is associated with the state of plastic strain must always be within or on the yield surface. A restriction is therefore imposed on the functions representing the yield surface, the free energy, and strain hardening.

Absolute Observation Stability for Evolutionary Variational Inequalities

2010
We derive absolute observation stability and instability results for controlled evolutionary inequalities which are based on frequency-domain characteristics of the linear part of the inequalities. The uncertainty parts of the inequalities (nonlinearities which represent external forces and constitutive laws) are described by certain local and integral

Systems with Persistent Memory: The Observation Inequality

2014
The goal of this chapter is to present a different circle of ideas used in the study of systems with persistent memory. For this, we give a proof of controllability which relays on the direct and inverse inequalities of the wave equation. The key properties we shall encounter are the extension of the hidden regularity to systems with memory, a test for
