How to Partition a Quantum Observable

open access: yesEntropy
We present a partition of quantum observables in an open quantum system that is inherited from the division of the underlying Hilbert space or configuration space.

Duty cycle of Doppler ground-based asteroseismic observations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We report the observations of the clear sky fraction at the Concordia station during winter 2006, and derive from it the duty cycle for astronomical observations. Performance in duty cycle and observation duration promotes Dome C for efficient asteroseismic observations. This performance is analyzed and compared to network observation.

Observing The Observer

open access: yes, 2016
I present a simple variant of the Schr dinger cat meets Wigner's friend thought experiment. If you are shocked by it, you have not understood quantum physics (no words are missing from this sentence).

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Scoliosis school screening of 139,922 multi-ethnic children in Dali, southwestern China: A large epidemiological study

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) primarily impacts adolescents and requires early intervention to prevent deformity. Early diagnosis and prediction of spine curvature in children could be aided by school scoliosis screening (SSS).

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

A new observable for holographic cosmology

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The double-cone geometry is a saddle of the gravitational path integral, which explains the chaotic statistics of the spectrum of black hole microstates.

Triple-Frequency GPS Un-Differenced and Uncombined PPP Ambiguity Resolution Using Observable-Specific Satellite Signal Biases

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The new generations of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) space vehicles can transmit three or more frequency signals. Multi-frequency observations bring a significant improvement to precise point positioning ambiguity resolution (PPP AR). However,

Unconventional mRNA processing and degradation pathways for the polycistronic yrzI (spyTA) mRNA in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The S1025 peptide is the major antidote to the YrzI toxin, which we renamed here as SpyT (Small Peptide YrzI Toxin) and SpyA (Small Peptide YrzI Antitoxin) (1). Degradation of the toxin–antitoxin spyTA mRNA, either by a translation‐dependent cleavage by the endoribonuclease Rae1 (2) or by direct attack by 3′‐exoribonucleases (3), also contributes to ...
