V751 Cyg and V Sge as transient supersoft X-ray sources

open access: yes, 1999
I review the observational evidence for luminous, soft X-ray emission during optical low-states in the two cataclysmic variables V751 Cyg and V Sge, and discuss the possible link to the canonical supersoft X-ray sources.Comment: 6 pages with newarcrc.sty;

Observational constraints on the optical and near-infrared emission from the neutron star–black hole binary merger candidate S190814bv

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
Context. Gravitational wave (GW) astronomy has rapidly reached maturity, becoming a fundamental observing window for modern astrophysics. The coalescences of a few tens of black hole (BH) binaries have been detected, while the number of events possibly ...

Large Anomalous and Topological Hall Effect and Nernst Effect in a Dirac Kagome Magnet Fe3Ge

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fe3Ge, a Kagome‐lattice magnet, exhibits remarkable anomalous Hall and Nernst effects, with transverse thermoelectric conductivity surpassing or comaprable to some well‐known ferromagnets. First‐principles calculations attribute these to Berry curvature from massive Dirac gaps. Additionally, topological Hall and Nernst signals emerge from field‐induced

Ion‐Selective Microporous Membranes via One‐Step Copolymerization Enable High‐Performance Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable one‐step copolymerization strategy is developed to produce low‐cost microporous ion exchange membranes that boost both the efficiency and lifespan of flow batteries. When combined with organic electrolytes in aqueous systems, these membranes enable safe and cheap flow battery energy storage, supporting the widespread integration of renewable

Uncovering the Hidden Physical Structures and Protostellar Activities in the Low-metallicity S284-RE Region: Results from ALMA and JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present an observational study of the S284-RE region, a low-metallicity area associated with the extended S284 H ii region. A thermally supercritical filament (mass ∼2402 M _⊙ and length ∼8.5 pc) is investigated using the Herschel column density map ...

Is the Pre-WMAP CMB Data Self-consistent?

open access: yes, 2003
Although individual observational groups vigorously test their data sets for systematic errors, the pre-WMAP CMB observational data set has not yet been collectively tested.

Synthesis and Electronic Structure of the Fractionally Occupied Double Perovskite EuTa2O6 with Ordered Europium Vacancies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐dimensional electronic states are the foundation of modern semiconductor technology. Here, we report molecular‐beam epitaxy growth of fractional double perovskite, EuTa2O6. Reciprocal space mapping and transmission electron microscopy confirm a layered ordering of A‐site cations.

Introduction to papers on astrostatistics

open access: yes, 2009
We are pleased to present a Special Section on Statistics and Astronomy in this issue of the The Annals of Applied Statistics. Astronomy is an observational rather than experimental science; as a result, astronomical data sets both small and large ...

Defects Dynamic in Photo‐Excited CeO2 and their Influence on CO2 Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy study under light excitation is presented to track the defect dynamic (Ce4+ to Ce3+) in CeO2. Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy confirmed the key role of Ce3+ states in controlling charge and energy transfer across the CeO2‐dye molecule interface.

High-cadence Timing of Binary Pulsars with CHIME

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We performed near-daily observations of the binary pulsars PSR J0218+4232, PSR J1518+4904, and PSR J2023+2853 with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME).
