Predicting the Future Burden of Renal Replacement Therapy in Türkiye Using National Registry Data and Comparative Modeling Approaches

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic kidney disease is a growing public health problem worldwide, and the number of patients requiring renal replacement therapy is steadily increasing. Türkiye has experienced a similar rise in both the incidence and prevalence of renal replacement therapy over the past decades; however, national‐level projections of future ...

A reexamination of methods for evaluating the predictability of the atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 1997
Pioneering work by Lorenz (1965, 1968, 1969) developed a number of methods for exploring the limits of predictability of the atmosphere. One method uses an integration of a realistic numerical model as a surrogate for the atmosphere.

Targeted smoothing parameter selection for estimating average causal effects

open access: yes, 2013
The non-parametric estimation of average causal effects in observational studies often relies on controlling for confounding covariates through smoothing regression methods such as kernel, splines or local polynomial regression.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Continuous Data Assimilation for a 2D B\'enard Convection System through Horizontal Velocity Measurements Alone

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we propose a continuous data assimilation (downscaling) algorithm for a two-dimensional B\'enard convection problem. Specifically we consider the two-dimensional Boussinesq system of a layer of incompressible fluid between two solid ...

Public Release of RELXILL_NK: A Relativistic Reflection Model for Testing Einstein's Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present the public release version of relxill_nk, an X-ray reflection model for testing the Kerr hypothesis and general relativity. This model extends the relxill model that assumes the black hole spacetime is described by the Kerr metric.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

SPATIAL DEPENDENCE IN OPTION OBSERVATION ERRORS

open access: yesEconometric Theory, 2020
In this paper, we develop the first formal nonparametric test for whether the observation errors in option panels display spatial dependence. The panel consists of options with different strikes and tenors written on a given underlying asset. The asymptotic design is of the infill type—the mesh of the strike grid for the observed options shrinks ...

Modeling and Analysis Generic Interface for eXternal numerical codes (MAGIX)

open access: yes, 2012
The modeling and analysis generic interface for external numerical codes (MAGIX) is a model optimizer developed under the framework of the coherent set of astrophysical tools for spectroscopy (CATS) project.
