The hydration of obsidian is studied by measuring hydrogen concentration profiles of natural samples hydrated at 90°C, using the 15N resonance nuclear reaction method. The results of this study are well reproduced by the interdiffusion model of Doremus. The importance of the non-amorphous phase of obsidian is discussed.
