Resin Materials for Root Canal Obturation
Dental Clinics of North America, 2010With the appearance of more in vivo and ex vivo publications, methacrylate based resin sealers are becoming more popular in endodontics. Their ease of use and favorable clinical performance offer an attractive alternative to conventional endodontics. This article reviews the development of resin-based sealers and biocompatibility tests.

Several obturation techniques are available for root canal treatment. Selection of any technique is determined not only by operator preference but also key factors including canal anatomy, preparation technique used and the unique treatment objectives of each case.

The root filling is the final leg of the endodontic triad of instrumentation, disinfection, and obturation. The purpose of treatment (prevention or cure of apical periodontitis) is served by the functions of the obturation (sealing, killing microbes, and filling the space), which depend on some properties of the materials.

Comparison of conventional root canal obturation techniques with thermafil obturators
Journal of Endodontics, 1992This study compared microleakage of Thermafil Obturators to the single cone technique in Lexan blocks simulating root canals (n = 20) stained with Prussian blue dye. The microleakage of Thermafil and laterally condensed extracted human teeth was also investigated after the teeth were stained with India ink or Prussian blue dye over 1- or 2-wk dye ...

The root canal must be dried with paper points prior to its obturation, as residual irrigation fluids will leave voids. The majority of dentists will use gutta percha as the primary filling material in root-canal therapy. The reason for the success of gutta percha among dentists is because it is easy to manipulate into the root canal, it is radopaque ...

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was originally introduced to dentistry as a root-end filling and perforation repair material. MTA canal obturation offers an innovative method to approach challenging endodontically involved teeth that may not respond using traditional filling materials and sealers when extensive pathosis is present.

[The fat body of the obturator canal].
Anatomischer Anzeiger, 1986In addition to the obturator nerve and vessels a fat body in the obturator canal is found in the majority of cases investigated. The fat body, small and isolated in newborns, is part of the subperitoneal mass of fat and loose areolar tissue in adults.
