A large reduction of direct aerosol cooling over Poland in the last decades
Almost 50% reduction of aerosol optical depth during last three decades in central Europe. Reduction of aerosol loading leads to positive radiative forcing at top of the atmosphere. Positive trend in direct aerosol radiative forcing is about 4 times bigger than the change of greenhouse gases forcing.

Abstract In this paper, we focus on two constructions that allow preverbal subjects headed by a so‐called partitive article in French, that is, sentences with a stage‐level predicate and generic emphatic constructions. The aim is to explain why their counterparts were generally not accepted by speakers of Francoprovençal, an endangered and understudied

Unexpected Partitive Articles in Francoprovençal*
Abstract This contribution seeks to add to our knowledge on ‘partitive articles’ (like the French element du in Je bois du vin, ‘I drink (some) wine’) in a highly endangered language spoken in France, Switzerland and Italy, namely Francoprovençal. Based on recent fieldwork data (2017) from the Aosta Valley and data from the ALAVAL atlas project, we ...

A Dirichlet process model for change‐point detection with multivariate bioclimatic data
Abstract Motivated by real‐world data of monthly values of precipitation, minimum, and maximum temperature recorded at 360 monitoring stations covering the Italian territory for 60 years (12×60 months), in this work we propose a change‐point model for multiple multivariate time series, inspired by the hierarchical Dirichlet process. We assume that each

The Martyrs of Córdoba: Debates around a curious case of medieval martyrdom
Abstract Historians have long been fascinated by the almost 50 Christians who were sentenced to death by the Islamic authorities in mid‐ninth century Córdoba, in most cases for wilfully and publicly blaspheming against the Prophet. Since the single manuscript account describing the lives and actions of the so‐called martyrs of Córdoba was ‘rediscovered’

Although tectonic plates are usually considered as rigid blocks, intraplate deformation such as lithospheric buckling or diffuse brittle deformation has been recognized for a long time. However, the origin of these deformations remains puzzling. Indeed, whereas the chronology of deformation at plate boundaries can be constrained by numerous methods ...

ABSTRACT The Mediterranean common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) presents an enigmatic natural history during the past centuries. Widely prevalent in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it faced a significant decline across most of the basin by the late 1960s caused by multiple anthropogenic threats, including culling, bycatch, prey depletion, and habitat ...

Are ‘coercive’ language policies fair?
Abstract This paper provides a normative justification regarding the fairness of ‘coercively’ protecting minority languages in mixed societies where the minority group already knows the majority language. To do so, it adopts first a theory‐testing approach and examines, by using the Catalan case, the validity of the arguments presented in Morales ...
