Understanding Operando Water Management in Hydroxide‐Exchange‐Membrane Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Effective water management is vital for high‐performance hydroxide‐exchange‐membrane fuel cells. Using a custom water‐flux station, this study quantifies how membrane thickness, microporous layers, and operating conditions dictate internal water transport.

Words from World Watchers: experiences of the occult in Mauritius

open access: yes
This study investigates the occult experiences of Mauritians through an experimental novel- length narrative including elements of the roman-à-clef, short story, poetry, and script, accompanied by complementary discourses.

Surface Functionalization Modulates Collective Cell Behavior Near Topological Defects Induced by Topographical Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Strongly adhered cells align with concentric circular ridges and exhibit predominantly tangential motion, whereas weakly adhered cells fail to follow topographical guidance and display enhanced radial inward motion. ABSTRACT Living cells establish long‐range orientational order through collective alignment, giving rise to topological defects whose ...

Diagnosis and Management of Occult Hepatitis B Virus Infection: A Short Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Occult hepatitis B virus infection (OBI) is a challenging clinical entity. It is defined as the presence of viral DNA in the liver or serum of subjects who test negative for the hepatitis B surface antigen.

Occult hepatitis B virus infection

open access: yes, 2007
The persistence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genomes in HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) negative individuals is termed occult HBV infection. Occult HBV status is associated in some cases with mutant viruses undetectable by HBsAg assays, but more frequently ...

Thermoplastic Dielectric Coatings for Flexible Electrodynamic Dust Shields: Structural and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Thermoplastic attachment is introduced as a scalable surface coating strategy to improve the durability and dielectric reliability of flexible electrodynamic dust shields. By embedding chemically modified reduced graphene oxide (CMrGO) electrodes within thermoplastic laminates, mechanical degradation, abrasion damage, and vacuum‐induced electrical ...

Animal symbols in occult lore and sometimes accompanying ritualistic animal sacrifice in Chile, South America

open access: yesHuman-Animal Interactions
Background: The word “occult” means hidden. Occult rituals are indeed commonly characterized by group secrecy and may include Satanism, Witchcraft, Divination and other practices.

Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Rab1A Promotes Hepatic Steatosis by Suppressing Mitophagy via the Raf‐1/ERK1/2/PINK1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Why does fat accumulate in the liver? Our study reveals Rab1A as the molecular switch that silences the cell's mitochondrial cleanup crew. Turning Rab1A off reactivates mitophagy, clears excess fat, and reverses fatty liver disease in mice—offering a promising new therapeutic target for MASLD, a growing global health challenge.
