Relationship between Lifting Capacity and Injury in Occupations Requiring Lifting

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1978
There are several factors which affect the lifting capacity. These factors can be categorized under the following: 1. individual characteristics, 2. task variables, and 3. environmental conditions. This paper presents the methods used to determine the lifting capacity for male and female industrial workers, as well ...

The relative importance of whole body vibration and occupational lifting as risk factors for low-back pain

open access: yesOccupational and Environmental Medicine, 2003
AIMS: To explore the impact of occupational exposure to whole body vibration (WBV) on low back pain (LBP) in the general population and to estimate the burden of LBP attributable to occupational WBV in comparison with that due to occupational lifting ...

Lifting injury: a study of the occupational health perspective

Nursing Standard, 1997
This article reports the results of a national questionnaire survey of 66 occupational health staff regarding the circumstances of nurse injury. Eight causative factors were identified as either a frequent direct cause or major contributory factor. Three circumstances were identified when nurses are most at risk of injury.

Occupant Protection and Standup Forklift (Lift Truck) Dynamics

Advances in Bioengineering, 2003
This paper investigates dynamic standing postural stability during standup forklift operation through a series of live subject tests to determine the sensitivity to loss of stability and falling. Through a set of controlled tests, the tolerance to accelerations in the lateral, oblique, and longitudinal orientations is determined.

Occupational lifting and adverse pregnancy outcome: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 2020
This systematic review was conducted to help clarify the effect of lifting at work on pregnancy outcome, by focusing on specific exposure categories. A search in Medline and Embase identified 51 articles reporting association of spontaneous abortion (SA), preterm delivery (PTD) or small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infant with exposure to occupational ...

Analysis of the Occupational Risk Management at the Enterprises during Lifting Equipment Operation

Occupational Safety in Industry, 2021
The model for assessing the levels of occupational risks was introduced and is used at the mechanical engineering enterprises during lifting equipment operation. The analysis of injuries carried out six months after the start of its use and familiarization of employees with the register and the level of hazards showed a decrease in risk levels in ...

Lifting Barriers to Skill Transferability: Immigrant Integration Through Occupational Recognition

SSRN Electronic Journal
While Western countries worry about labor shortages, their institutional barriers to skill transferability prevent immigrants from fully utilizing foreign qualifications. Combining administrative and survey data in a difference-in-differences design, we show that a German reform, which lifted these barriers for non-EU immigrants, led to a 15 percent ...
