The Effect of Attenuation from Fish Shoals on Long-Range, Wide-Area Acoustic Sensing in the Ocean
Acoustics is the primary means of long-range and wide-area sensing in the ocean due to the severe attenuation of electromagnetic waves in seawater.

Performance of a Rotational Sensor to Decipher Volcano Seismic Signals on Etna, Italy
Abstract Volcano‐seismic signals such as long‐period events and tremor are important indicators for volcanic activity and unrest. However, their wavefield is complex and characterization and location using traditional seismological instrumentation is often difficult.

Hydroacoustic Travel Time Variations as a Proxy for Passive Deep‐Ocean Thermometry—A Cookbook
Abstract We report on the extraction of deep ocean travel time variations from time‐lapse cross‐correlations between a hydrophone station and a three‐component broadband seismometer. The signals we cross‐correlate in this study result from repeated activity by the Monowai seamount, one of the most active submarine volcanoes of the Tonga‐Kermadec ridge.

Abstract Mount Michael stratovolcano, South Sandwich Islands is extremely remote and challenging to observe, but eruptive activity has been sporadically observed since 1820 and captured by satellite methods since 1989. We identify long‐range infrasound signals recorded by the International Monitoring System attributable to episodes of persistent ...

Designing ocean acoustic waveguide remote sensing for target detecting and tracking
Acoustic sensor used sound wave to transmit pulses into the underwater in order to gain underwater environment information. We developed Ocean Acoustics Waveguide Remote Sensing (OAWRS) instrument. The acoustic signal acquisition system has been designed which used to record the direct, reflected, scattered or echoed signals originated from transmitter

High performance architecture design for large scale fibre-optic sensor arrays using distributed EDFAs and hybrid TDM/DWDM [PDF]
A distributed amplified dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) array architecture is presented for interferometric fibre optic sensor array systems. This architecture employs a distributed erbium doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) scheme to decrease the

Temporal coherence of the acoustic field forward propagated through a continental shelf with random internal waves [PDF]
An analytical model derived from normal mode theory for the accumulated effects of range-dependent multiple forward scattering is applied to estimate the temporal coherence of the acoustic field forward propagated through a continental-shelf waveguide ...
