Sensitivity of ocean acidification and oxygen to the uncertainty in climate change

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
Due to increasing atmospheric CO _2 concentrations and associated climate change, the global ocean is undergoing substantial physical and biogeochemical changes.

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Effects of hollow glass microspheres on the benthic and benthopelagic organisms Capitella sp. and Mytilus edulis

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Hollow glass microspheres (HGM) are widely used as fillers in composite materials including paints and plastics. Further, due to their high reflectivity, an approach involving HGM application on Arctic sea ice surfaces has been considered as a measure to

Temporal changes in surface partial pressure of carbon dioxide and carbonate saturation state in the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean during the 1962–2012 period [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2014
Information on changes in the oceanic carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration and air–sea CO2 flux as well as on ocean acidification in the Indian Ocean is very limited.

Tailored D‐π Conjugation Boosts Piezocatalytic CO2 Reduction in a Platinum(II)‐Acetylide Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The highly conjugated metalII‐acetylide framework demonstrates efficient ultrasound‐driven conversion of CO2 to CO. The piezoelectric field generated by ultrasound facilitates electron transfer from the tetraphenylene π‐column to the MII‐bis(acetylide) moiety, enabling CO2 activation. Compared to PdII‐ and NiII‐based analogues, the stronger d–π orbital

A Modular PLUG‐IN Photosynthetic Chassis With Tunable Thermal Control for Mammalian Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work establishes a “plug‐in” chassis compatible with mammalian systems that synchronizes growth, production, and cell‐wall re‐configuration, providing a versatile platform for photosynthetic bioproduction and microalgal synthetic biology. ABSTRACT Microalgae are promising photosynthetic platforms for high‐value compounds, yet their industrial use ...

The Case for Policy in Developing Offshore Wind: Lessons from Norway

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Offshore wind (OSW) has the potential to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and halt damaging climate change. However, policies to foster an OSW industry in Norway have long been small and scarce. Recent events suggest that this is changing, as the state-

Causal‐Guided Ultra‐Long‐Term Time Series Forecasting Via Anticipated Covariates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Often treated as unknown, information from the future remains underutilized. We demonstrate that in a coupled dynamical system, providing the future state of the effect enables accurate forecasting of the cause for a long timesteps. A time series forecasting paradigm that introduces anticipated covariates to represent such known future states is ...

Climate model and proxy data constraints on ocean warming across the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Constraining the greenhouse gas forcing, climatic warming and estimates of climate sensitivity across ancient large transient warming events is a major challenge to the palaeoclimate research community.
