A Novel Ice Cloud Optical Property Model for Passive and Active Remote Sensing Applications

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract A new broad‐spectrum ice cloud optical property model, namely the Passive‐Active Remote Sensing Consistent (PARSC) model, is developed to achieve consistency between passive and active sensor‐based ocean‐occurring ice cloud property retrievals.

Land‐Feedbacks‐Driven Dry‐Hot Mutual Reinforcement Extends Global Compound Drought‐Heatwave Durations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Under global warming, numerous compound events have emerged, yet the physical linkages between the two factors often remain unclear. The increasing frequency of droughts and heatwaves has raised the likelihood of compound drought and heatwave events (CDHE) worldwide, accompanied by frequent long‐lasting mega‐CDHE posing serious exposure risks.

Identifying Energy Balance Drivers of Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Melt Using Causal Discovery

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) mass loss has accelerated in recent decades, primarily due to enhanced surface melt. Identifying the causal dependencies of surface melt remains challenging with conventional correlations. Using the PCMCI+ ${\text{PCMCI}}^{+}$ causal discovery algorithm applied to CESM2 large‐ensemble simulations and evaluated ...

Revealing Coastal Storm‐Wave Transformations From SWOT HR Observation: The English Channel Case Study

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Swell propagation and transformation across variable bathymetry and coastal obstacles fundamentally control nearshore wave energy redistribution, sediment transport, and shoreline evolution. Conventional satellite altimetry cannot adequately resolve these dynamics, particularly refraction and diffraction as swell transition into shallow waters.

A Path to Improving Simulated Properties of Low Clouds Over the Beaufort Sea Using Airborne in Situ Observations of Subgrid‐Scale Variability

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Arctic low clouds influence Arctic system evolution through their effects on the atmosphere and surface. Unfortunately, atmospheric models and retrospective analysis (reanalysis) struggle to simulate Arctic low cloud occurrence and properties.
