Abstract The Atacama Desert in Chile is characterized by its high meteorite density and old meteorite terrestrial ages. In this work, we present new terrestrial ages derived from measurements of the concentration of cosmogenic 36Cl in the metal fraction of 51 ordinary chondrites collected over a 6.8 km2 area located in the Catalina Dense Collection ...

Past Colony Connectivity of a Declining Seabird Derived From Host-Parasite Genetic Data. [PDF]
ABSTRACT The black‐legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla, hereafter ‘kittiwake’, conservation status ‘Vulnerable’) is a long‐lived, highly motile and wide‐ranging seabird. Breeding kittiwake colonies are abundant across the northern hemisphere. The kittiwake's life history and the spatial scale of its breeding distribution make understanding colony ...

That sinkin’ feeling: Environmentally induced distress on a disappearing island
Abstract Residents of Tangier Island, Virginia, a subsiding island in the Chesapeake Bay, embody psychosocial dimensions of environmental change. Analysis of ethnographic data shows islanders’ experiences and articulations of anxiety, panic, and despair as “that sinkin’ feeling,” resulting from the stress of living with the long‐term threat of imminent

Subnational Border Reforms and Economic Activity in Africa
ABSTRACT Using GIS methods, we identify territories in Africa affected by subnational border reforms between 1992 and 2013. Descriptive statistics reveal that these territories differed from other African regions across several key dimensions. For example, these territories were more populous and exhibited greater ethnic diversity.

Upper Ocean Thermodynamic Response to Coupling Currents to Wind Stress over the Gulf Stream
We use high-resolution coupled atmosphere–ocean model simulations over the Gulf Stream extension region during a winter season to examine the upper ocean thermodynamic response to including current feedback to atmospheric wind stress. We demonstrate that

Genetic Basis of UV Bullseye Size Variations in Turnip Rape (Brassica rapa subsp. oleifera)
ABSTRACT Floral ultraviolet (UV) patterns are visible to bee pollinators and can affect crop yields by impacting pollinator visitation. However, the mechanisms underlying the intraspecific variations of UV bullseye size remain largely unknown. We analyse the ecological consequences and genetic basis of floral UV bullseye size variation in an important ...
