Environmental factors influencing detection of ring‐necked pheasant broods during August roadside surveys

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 3, April 2026.
We evaluated the influence of environmental factors on detection probability of ring‐necked pheasant broods surveyed during roadside surveys across 11 states. Wind speed, cloud cover, morning dew conditions, and soil moisture influenced detection probabilities and should be the focus of methodological or statistical control in future landscape‐scale ...

In vitro evaluation of azole fungicide sensitivity in Fusarium langsethiae, F. tricinctum, F. poae and F. sporotrichioides populations from Irish oats

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 4, Page 3930-3941, April 2026.
Microtitre plate assays of 286 Irish oat isolates show species‐specific azole sensitivity. In Fusarium langsethiae, mefentrifluconazole and tebuconazole sensitivities correlate, defining four phenotypes and supporting resistance monitoring and integrated control.

From Hurricane Irma to the Grindavík eruptions: volatility premiums in disaster governance

open access: yesDisasters, Volume 50, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Environmental volatility can inflate property values even as it destroys them. To show how, this article pairs a postcolonial micro‐state in the Caribbean (Sint Maarten after Hurricane Irma) with a Nordic welfare town (Grindavík in Iceland following volcanic eruptions) because they occupy the opposite ends of the governance capacity spectrum ...

Review of National Laws and Regulations in China in Relation to the Precautionary Approach to Fisheries Management

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 201-218, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The precautionary approach has been widely accepted as an important guideline in international, regional, and national fisheries management. The United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement provided a foundational framework for the application of the precautionary approach in fisheries management.

Madden‐Julian Oscillation and Atmospheric Rivers: New Insights on Water Source and Transport for Extreme Rainfall Over the Western U.S.

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract Atmospheric rivers (ARs) were first documented by Zhu and Newell for transporting global water vapor. ARs contribute to extreme rainfall, especially over the Western United States. The primary water vapor source of ARs is from the tropical ocean, where convective systems bring the moist flux upward from the surface to the troposphere. Previous

Hemispheric Synoptic Patterns Control Rainfall and Long‐Range Aerosol Transport in the Amazon

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract The transatlantic transport of dust and smoke aerosols from Africa to South America is a large‐scale, year‐round process that affects atmospheric and nutrient cycling in the Amazon rainforest. We analyze daily variations in black carbon at the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (ATTO) to investigate how Atlantic synoptic‐scale meteorology ...

A Climatology of Mesoscale Convective System Hazards in the United States and Their Representation in a Convection‐Permitting Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) are large, organized convective storms that frequently produce flash floods and other severe hazards such as damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. Developing an observationally based MCS hazard climatology is important for establishing a baseline to evaluate the representation of these events in numerical ...

Research and investigation of geology, mineral, and water resources of Maryland [PDF]

open access: yes
The authors have identified the following significant results. Field work in Baltimore County revealed that the signature returns of serpentinitic and nonserpentinitic rocks correlates with the vegetation cover and land use pattern. In Maryland Piedmont,
