Report on Mini-conference on Sludge Disposal Alternatives in the Ocean off Southern California, 8 September 1976 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The purpose of the conference was to review the status of our capability to predict the environmental effects of the disposal of digested sewage sludge in the ocean off the coast of Southern California.

Single‐Cell Transcriptomic Atlases of Camels and Cattle Unravel Molecular Evolution of Digestive and Metabolic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We generated multi‐tissue single‐cell transcriptomic atlases of camels and cattle, uncovering conserved and lineage‐specific cellular features across digestive and metabolic systems. Cross‐species comparisons revealed the evolutionary origin of the camel glandular sac and identified novel cell populations linked to physiological specialization ...

A visible record of eddies in the southern Mozambique Channel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The flows around Madagascar feed into the Agulhas Current, but there have been few hydrographic studies of the flow within the Mozambique Channel. Some cruise and altimetric data point to this being a region of high mesoscale activity, with eddies ...

Nonlinear Hamiltonian dynamics of Lagrangian transport and mixing in the ocean

open access: yes, 2005
Methods of dynamical system's theory are used for numerical study of transport and mixing of passive particles (water masses, temperature, salinity, pollutants, etc.) in simple kinematic ocean models composed with the main Eulerian coherent structures in

Critical Limitations in Cryogenic Laser Cooling of Solids: Symmetry‐Related Fluorescence Trapping and Condensation‐Induced Parasitic Heating

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers two overlooked bottlenecks in cryogenic laser cooling of solids: symmetry‐driven fluorescence trapping and water vapor condensation. We demonstrate that breaking sample symmetry enhances fluorescence escape, while condensation dominates parasitic heating below 135 K.

Seasonal Effects of Nakdong River Freshwater Inflow and Coastal Environmental Changes on Phytoplankton Community Structure, Including Harmful Species, in Eastern Jinhae Bay, Korea

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Rainfall-induced freshwater influx is a major nutrient source in estuarine and coastal waters, often driving changes in phytoplankton community structure and blooms.
