Trading green backs for green crabs: evaluating the commercial shellfish harvest at risk from European green crab invasion [v3; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/4jf]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2014
Nonnative species pose a threat to native biodiversity and can have immense impacts on biological communities, altering the function of ecosystems. How much value is at risk from high-impact invasive species, and which parameters determine variation in ...

The Cuttlebone Blueprint for Multifunctional Metamaterials: Design Taxonomy, Functional Decoupling, and Future Horizons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...

Seasonal Phytoplankton Characteristics Related with Region-Specific Coastal Environments in the Korean Peninsula

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton communities in Korean coastal waters (KCWs) are influenced by complex interactions between ocean currents and nearshore human activities. Despite these influences, the understanding of seasonal phytoplankton changes

Metal–Organic Frameworks for Gaseous Pollutant Management: From Capture to Neutralization and Reutilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review maps how MOFs can manage hazardous gases by combining adsorption, neutralization, and reutilization, enabling sustainable air‐pollution control. Covering chemical warfare agent simulants, SO2, NOx, NH3, H2S, and volatile organic compounds, it highlights structure‐guided strategies that boost selectivity, water tolerance, and cycling ...

Metachromatic Butterfly Bile Pigments for Multi‐Level Optical Security Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐derived optical security materials are manufactured by embedding butterfly‐based pigments in polymer films. Tunable color and fluorescence responses arise from concentration‐controlled metachromasy, enabling spatially encoded patterns with distinct visible, UV‐active, and spectral signatures.

Comprehensive Analysis of Trends in Ocean Surface Current by Delineating Kuroshio Extent Using an Optimized Segmentation Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access
Most studies investigated Kuroshio on quantitative values measured at standard grid locations or along a transect. However, this research delineates Kuroshio from its surrounding waters, and surface current trends are analyzed from 1993 to 2020 ...
