The President's Page: International Program of Ocean Drilling

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1973
The United States continues to demonstrate top quality in scientific enterprise and conspicuously in those areas that are sometimes called ‘big science.’ In matters pertaining to the American Geophysical Union, three major examples stick out: lunar exploration, the ERTS program, and the Deep Sea Drilling Project. We can all be proud of the effectiveness

South China Sea records Late Miocene reorganization of western Pacific deep circulation

open access: yesNature Communications
Oceanic gateways play a crucial role in controlling global ocean circulation. However, gateway effects on low-latitude deep-water circulation are poorly understood.

Climatic factors, landscape composition and host plant traits co‐drive fruit infestation of unmanaged walnut trees by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa (Cresson, 1929) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The study examined multiscale factors influencing walnut fruit infestations by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa. Infestation rates increased with fruit size, host tree abundance, grasslands, hedgerows and temperatures, but decreased with anthropogenic habitats and heavy spring rainfall.

Biology, ecology and dynamics of Deborrea malgassa (Heylarts 1884) (Lepidoptera: Psychidae), the main threat to apple Malus domestica Borkh growing in Madagascar

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Bioecology parameters of the endemic Psychidae Deborrea malgassa, the main pest of apple trees in Madagascar. Spatiotemporal dynamics of Deborrea malgassa, with a peak infestation between May and August. Proposed targeted prophylaxis techniques associated with other agroecological principles will be key to reducing the vulnerability of apple orchards ...

Toward an Indigenous Curatorial Practice: Learning From Tłı̨chǫ Metaphors of Care to Establish Principles of Curation

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The displacement of items of cultural heritage from Indigenous communities is continually perpetuated through their appropriation into collection systems that are inappropriate to Indigenous laws and customs. This paper presents the efforts of the Tłı̨chǫ Government (TG) to address such issues by creating a system that is rooted within its ...

Monsters of finance

open access: yesAmerican Ethnologist, EarlyView.
Abstract An anthropology of horror can serve as a vernacular critique of financial speculation. Drawing on fieldwork in San Pedro, Paraguay, I track horror across three registers: pombero tricksters; plata yvyguy (buried money) as a founding myth of postwar finance; and obligations binding sesame farmers to monsters, patrones, and creditors.

Response of Remote Tropical West Pacific Islands to Climate Variability: A Multiproxy Record From T‐Lake, Palau, Spanning the Early Holocene to Present

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lake sediments are natural archives of past environmental dynamics and how these systems have responded to past climate variability. Sediment geochemistry, governed by local geology and climate processes, is unique to each lake‐catchment and geochemical proxies must be validated for each study site.

A Global Evaluation of Lithology‐Dependent Marine Sediment Compaction Parameters and Their Uncertainties

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Tectonic subsidence, sea level, and paleoclimate reconstructions using marine records rely on accurate decompaction of the sediment column. Over time, increased overburden pressure from burial decreases sediment porosity with depth.
