Dissipative heat engine is thermodynamically inconsistent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A heat engine operating on the basis of the Carnot cycle is considered, where the mechanical work performed is dissipated within the engine at the temperature of the warmer isotherm and the resulting heat is added to the engine together with an external heat input.

A comparison of stochastic and deterministic downscaling in eddy resolving ocean modelling: the Lakshadweep Sea case study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This study compares the skills of two numerical models having the same horizontal resolution but based on different principles in representing meso- and submesoscale features of ocean dynamics in the Lakshadweep Sea (North Indian Ocean). The first model, titled LD20-NEMO, is based on solving primitive equations using the NEMO (Nucleus for European ...

Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Application Progress of Computational Fluid Dynamic Techniques for Complex Viscous Flows in Ship and Ocean Engineering

open access: yes, 2020
Complex flow around floating structures is a highly nonlinear problem, and it is a typical feature in ship and ocean engineering. Traditional experimental methods and potential flow theory have limitations in predicting complex viscous flows.

A Debris Backwards Flow Simulation System for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents a system based on a Two-Way Particle-Tracking Model to analyze possible crash positions of flight MH370. The particle simulator includes a simple flow simulation of the debris based on a Lagrangian approach and a module to extract appropriated ocean current data from netCDF files.

Near‐Field Phonon Nanoscopy and Imaging of Structural Variants in Mixed Phase BiFeO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nano‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scattering scanning near‐field optical microscopy imaging reveal the phonon response of nanoscale phase variants in mixed‐phase BiFeO3 (BFO). Direct mid‐infrared imaging of associated distinct vibrational signatures is used as a non‐invasive optical detection method for electrical switching of ...
