Geo-Engineering in the Southern Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Ocean Dumping A German research vessel, the Polarstern, is on a 70 day exercise of dumping 20 tonnes of ferrous sulphate (iron sulphate, FeSO4) in the Southern Ocean at a latitude of 46° south.

Cold Atmospheric Plasma‐Activated Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Gel as a Tumor‐Infiltrating Immunoactivation Platform for Post‐Surgical Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An injectable cold atmospheric plasma‐activated decellularized tumor extracellular matrix hydrogel is introduced as a post‐surgical immunoactivation platform. The engineered gel attracts residual tumor cells and induces immunogenic cell death, reshaping the tumor microenvironment and eliciting systemic antitumor immunity. In combination with checkpoint

Mapping Ocean Wealth: Livelihoods, Economies and Integrated Ocean-Use Planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Conservancy's goal is to calculate and describe—in quantitative and spatial terms—all that the ocean does for us today, so we can make smart investments and decisions affecting what the ocean can do for us tomorrow.

An Efficient Coarse Grid Projection Method for Quasigeostrophic Models of Large-Scale Ocean Circulation

open access: yes, 2013
This paper puts forth a coarse grid projection (CGP) multiscale method to accelerate computations of quasigeostrophic (QG) models for large scale ocean circulation.

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Public Perceptions of Ocean-Based Carbon Dioxide Removal: The Nature-Engineering Divide?

open access: yesFrontiers in Climate, 2020
Public acceptability is a standard element on the list of potential constraints on research and deployment of ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR). We outline past work on the public perceptions and acceptability of ocean-based CDR among laypersons ...

Two-Way Feedback Interaction between the Thermohaline and Wind-Driven Circulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The thermohaline circulation (THC) affects the meridional atmospheric temperature gradient and therefore the atmospheric wind and the wind-driven ocean circulation.

Resistance to Overdoping Allows Over 2000 S cm−1 Conductivity in P(g3BTTT) With Anion‐Exchange Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Anion‐exchange doping of conjugated polymers is an effective way to achieve high conductivities. Here, we report over 2000 S cm−1 electrical conductivity for doped P(g3BTTT). In addition, we show that P(g3BTTT) sustains exceptionally high doping levels without any drop in the charge mobility.

Kinematic Calibration for the 3-UPS/S Shipborne Stabilized Platform Based on Transfer Learning

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The three-degrees-of-freedom (3-DOF) parallel robot is commonly employed as a shipborne stabilized platform for real-time compensation of ship disturbances. Pose accuracy is one of its most critical performance indicators. Currently, neural networks have

Rogue Waves: From Nonlinear Schrödinger Breather Solutions to Sea-Keeping Test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Under suitable assumptions, the nonlinear dynamics of surface gravity waves can be modeled by the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Besides traveling wave solutions like solitons, this model admits also breather solutions that are now ...
