Surface-Layer Circulations in Suruga Bay Induced by Intrusions of Kuroshio Branch Water
The water mass structure in Suruga Bay is strongly influenced by open-ocean water. In particular, it is suggested that intermittent intrusions of the Kuroshio water generate characteristic circulations in the surface layer of the bay.

Climate Signals in the Black Sea From a Multidecadal Eddy-Resolving Reanalysis
Ocean reanalyses are becoming increasingly important to reconstruct and provide an overview of the ocean state from the past to the present-day. In this article, we present a Black Sea reanalysis covering the whole satellite altimetry era.

It is now widely recognized that in order to reach the target of limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels (as the objective of the Paris agreement), cutting the carbon emissions even at an unprecedented pace will not be ...

This note is focused on the problem of providing boundary conditions for regional ocean models. It is shown that usual methods generally do not address the correct problem, but more or less approaching ones. A tentative classification of these methods is proposed. Then their theoretical foundations are discussed, and recommendations are given.

Wind retrievals from high‐frequency radars (HFRs) provide high‐density, hourly wind estimates over the ocean near the coast. These wind retrievals are a promising new source of near‐surface wind estimates in coastal regions where it is difficult to ...

The effect of normal and abnormal eddies on the mixed layer depth in the global ocean
Mesoscale eddies are broadly distributed over the global ocean and play a significant role in modulating the spatiotemporal evolution of mixed layer depth (MLD).

Bridging the gap from ocean models to population dynamics of large marine predators: A model of mid-trophic functional groups [PDF]
The modeling of mid-trophic organisms of the pelagic ecosystem is a critical step in linking the coupled physical–biogeochemical models to population dynamics of large pelagic predators. Here, we provide an example of a modeling approach with definitions

The essential observations for reconstructing full-depth tidal currents
Based on the modal decomposition and least square method, full-depth tidal currents and corresponding internal tidal modes can be obtained from limited observations.

Southern Ocean response to relative velocity wind stress forcing [PDF]
An eddy-resolving quasigeostrophic model of the Southern Ocean coupled to a dynamic atmospheric mixed layer is used to compare the performance of two different wind stress parameterization schemes.
